Bio

Alison lives with her mom, her stepdad, and four siblings. Her family is struggling financially. Her mom works for Ingenio San Antonio (the sugar cane company), but only during the harvest season (November-May). The rest of the year she is without work. When her mom is working, they have enough money for food. When she is without work, they are often unable to meet their basic needs. Alison is currently in her first year of secondary school (US equivalent of 7th grade). Her favorite class is Social Studies. Alison loves to dance in her free time and is a part of the girls’ dance ministry at New Song. She also plays on a community softball league. Alison dreams of becoming a lawyer.

Alison received her backpack, school supplies, uniform, and shoes. She is an excellent student and was honored among the top students in her class during the independence day march in September. Through her sponsorship, she was able to receive extra school supplies for special class projects and participate in a school field trip to Chinandega. Alison loves to play softball and has been playing on a community league. She just finished her first year of secondary school. She has done well in all of her classes. Her teacher says that she is a dedicated and hardworking student. She is excited to start her second year of high school in February.

April 28, 2014

Alison started her 2nd year of high school (8th grade). She received her uniform, shoes, backpack, and school supplies for the new year. Alison has been attending the youth discipleship program on Wednesday nights. She is really enjoying learning more about the Lord. Thanks to sponsorship, Alison was able to meet with a counselor to talk through some things that have been weighing on her heart. She loved meeting with the counselor. Alison received a medical and dental evaluation at the beginning of the year to ensure that she is in good health. Because of sponsorship, she was able to receive the medicine she needed during this evaluation. Alison and her family were able to receive food provisions through her sponsorship. Alison plays for a community softball league. Her team has made the national championships and traveled to Bluefields for the tournament. They ended the year in 2nd place.

August 25, 2014

Allison received her first report card of the year in May. Her top grades are in Spanish (98%), culture (100%), and science (81%). She has been playing on community softball league and has gotten to travel to different parts of Nicaragua to play. Allison received an additional backpack through her sponsorship as well as extra needed school supplies. Her sponsorship was able to cover the costs of a class field trip to another city and a school activity celebrating Mother’s Day and International Children’s Day. Allison has been attending the new youth group at New Song Mission. She loves it and has begun to hear the voice of the Lord unlike ever before. In May, Allison was baptized! She was so excited about what the Lord has planned for her.

Alison finished her year of school in November. She is looking forward to having a break from school. Alison continues to come to youth group and church. She is so sweet. Alison was recently asked to start teaching Sunday School at the New Song church. She is excited about starting to teach the youngest class. She has been observing and attending Sunday school teacher meetings. Alison went on a field trip with her school of which her sponsorship covered the costs. She was also able to participate in the Independence Day parade as part of the marching band. She loves being a part of this event and is one of the best in the group.

Alison finished her second year of high school in December and began her third year at the beginning of February. She thoroughly enjoyed her vacation from school as she spent most of the time with her family in the mountains of Matagalpa. Alison’s teacher comments that she is doing well in this beginning part of the year. Her sponsorship provided her with a new backpack, uniform, school shoes, and supplies. She was also given a separate uniform for her PE class. Last year, Alison was able to participate in her end of the year celebration with her class with the help of her sponsorship. As Alison was gone for vacation, she was not able to teach Sunday school and is waiting until the right time to begin again. In December, Alison and her family received a water filter and a teaching on water borne illnesses. This will provide them with clean drinking water for the next several years.

November 2015

Alison is excited about finishing her third year of high school and being on vacation from school until the beginning of February. Alison continues to succeed in her classes with top grades in civics, English, and math. Alison just started participating in New Song’s baseball league. She is on the oldest team and plays in the outfield. Alison’s sponsorship helped her to complete several class projects. She will celebrate her quincenera in December.

April 2016

Alison began her fourth year of high school at the beginning of February. She is such a smart girl and always does well, especially in math and English. Thanks to her sponsorship, she received her backpack, uniform, shoes, school supplies, and an athletic outfit to be able to participate in her physical education class. Math is her favorite subject because she says it is the easiest and always understands what she is learning. Her class has been working on diagraming trees and learning about the development of the human body. Alison’s sponsorship covered the cost of medicine that she needed for a rash on her hands. She has been working with New Song’s baseball league helping to coach the oldest team in Candelaria. She is a great player and the players enjoy learning from her.

Fall 2016

Alison continues to succeed academically and has maintained an 81% average for her first semester of classes. Her best grades are 90% in Language Arts and 88% in Chemistry. English has been her most difficult class this year. They are currently learning about future tense verbs. In math she has been studying the quadratic equation. In chemistry, Alison is learning the formulas of chemical compounds. Alison received a new uniform and pair of shoes for the second semester of classes. Her sponsorship has also provided Alison with several things that she needs to be successful in class including a scientific calculator and a book for her Economics class. Alison has stopped coaching the baseball team at New Song because she was able to join the team as a player. She loves the opportunity to play as part of this team. Although Alison is doing very well academically, she has been struggling with her attitude this year. She is beginning to hang out with a new group of friends and has been facing a lot of peer pressure. Pray for Alison that she will make wise decisions in her friendships.
