Bio

Belki and her little sister, Gracielita, live with their cousins and grandmother, in a household of at least 9 children aged 12 and under. Her parents live and work in nearby cities, but are not able to send much money back to help pay for living costs. Belki has a quiet, gentle spirit about her, and although shy is always quick to smile. Like her cousins, Suley and Yira, Belki enjoys playing hide and seek, jump rope, and soccer, and hopes to be a lawyer when she grows up.

December 2015

Belki is so excited to be a part of the sponsorship program! This is a huge blessing for her and her family. Belki received her uniform, shoes, and school supplies to successfully complete the school year as well as an athletic outfit to participate fully in her PE class. Through her sponsorship, Belki was able to rent a traditional folklore outfit to participate in an event for her school. She was also able to complete investigations for her class and attend a field trip with her school. Belki has a B average overall. Her best grades are in Cultural Studies (98%), and Civics (85%). Her favorite class is science. Belki and her class have been studying anatomy in science. She loves this area of study! Belki dreams of becoming a doctor and has thoroughly enjoyed studying about the different body systems. We are excited to see how she will grow through this program.

April 2016

Belki began her second year of high school in the beginning of February. Thanks to her sponsorship, she received her backpack, uniform, shoes, school supplies, and an athletic outfit to be able to participate in her physical education class. Her favorite class is Spanish because she likes to learn poems and stories especially about the Nicaraguan poet, Ruben Dario. Her most difficult class is geography, but says that math is her easiest class. Currently, her school is under construction. Due to this the school changed the class schedule and the students only attend class on Saturday and Sundays at another school for the next several months while they finish the work on the building. Belki continues to attend youth group and other church activities. She is such a sweet girl who loves her family and those around her.

Fall 2016

Belki received her second uniform and pair of school shoes of the year in July. She is halfway through with her second year of high school and continues to maintain passing grades in all of her classes. Her top grades are in physical education and science (both 100%) and her vocational class and culture (both 90%). Her class has been learning the national anthems of five Central American countries that will celebrate their independence days in September. In Belki’s high school, her class spends the first semester learning about geography and the second semester studying history. Her class has now moved onto history and they are learning about the Incan, Mayan, and Aztec civilizations. Belki has been struggling some in her math class but is working hard to bring her grade up. Through her sponsorship, Belki received all of her needed school supplies and was able to go to the New Song clinic and get medicine when she wasn’t feeling well. In April, Belki celebrated her birthday and her sponsorship was able to provide her with a small celebration with her family. In May, Belki was baptized at her community’s New Song church! We are so proud of her for taking this step in her faith!
