Bio

Brisney lives with her parents and two siblings in a small tin room built onto the back on her grandma’s house. All three children sleep together in a tiny twin size cot. Brisney’s mom is currently pregnant with her fourth child. Brisney’s dad has chronic kidney and is no longer able to work in the sugar cane. He is receiving a small pension, but it is not enough to provide for their family. When his health allows, he looks for work anywhere that his hiring extra hands. He is currently working to dig a well at the New Song property in Santa Matilde. The family is very close-knit and affectionate, but they are struggling to meet their basic needs.Brisney is currently in 2nd grade. Her favorite class is civics. In her free time, she likes to play with her siblings and cousins. When she grows up, Brisney wants to become a chef so that she will be able to help her mom.

Brisney received her first uniform, shoes, backpack, and school supplies through her sponsorship. She was so excited! Brisney has a new addition to her family. Her mom just had a baby girl. Brisney loves being the big sister and helping her mom take care of the new baby. Through her sponsorship, Brisney has received some extra school supplies along with covering the costs of some school fees. Sponsorhip has also given her the opportunity to receive medical care through the New Song clinic. Brisney is doing well in all of her classes and has even raised her grades in most of them. Her top grades are in math (95%) and language (95%). Brisney’s sponsorship was able to provide food for her and her family during this particularly difficult season when many people are out of work. Brisney’s dad has recently started working a guard shift for New Song church as well as working in the garden in one of the outreach churches. Brisney has a great dad who loves her and her siblings so much.

Brisney and her family recently moved to Santa Matilde. Her dad is working with a gardening program through the church plant in that village. Moving to the new village has given her dad consistent work in order to better provide for his family. Brisney is adjusting well to the move. She has already made good friends in the village and is excited to start classes with her new friends. Brisney started 3rd grade this year. She is very intelligent and loves school. Through sponsorship, she received her new uniform, shoes, backpack, and school supplies for the new year. She also received a medical and dental evaluation through the New Song clinic at the start of this new year. Also through sponsorship, Brisney and her family were able to receive food provisions for their family during the transition to their new home and their dad's new job.

Brisney began the 3rd grade in February. She really loves school and does well in her classes. Her top grades are in math and Spanish. She struggles some in her social studies class. Brisney has been attending weekly tutoring sessions to work on homework and receive extra help. In tutoring, she has gotten to read some kids’ books. She is a great reader! Her favorite class is math. She is learning about addition and subtraction of large numbers. Her class has also started practicing multiplication of double-digit numbers. Brisney’s Spanish class has been learning about poetry. She really likes learning about and practicing writing her own poems. Her sponsorship helped her family celebrate Brisney’s birthday with a small dinner.

Brisney received her second uniform and shoes for the last part of the year. Her favorite class continues to be math. She especially enjoys the weekly tutoring sessions. Her group has been practicing their multiplication tables and working on identifying within word problems when to use multiplication and when to use division. This time of year can be a particularly difficult time of year because so many people are out of work. Also, due to the lack of rain this area received, the garden that Brisney’s family runs had a difficult time. Through her sponsorship, Brisney’s family received food provisions to get them through this season. The New Song clinic did an outreach clinic in the village that Brisney lives in. Thanks to sponsorship, she was able to receive medicine and see the doctor.

She was honored at her school’s graduation ceremony for being the best in her third grade class. Her sponsorship was able to cover the costs of participation in this event. Brisney is enjoying the fourth grade. Her teacher has only good things to say about Brisney as a student. She comments that Brisney is intelligent, attends class daily, participates, and pays attention in class. We are proud of her work and how much she tries to succeed in classes. Brisney received her first report card and is passing all of her classes. Her top grades are in civics (95%), science (100%), and social studies (80%). Her class had an activity in which Brisney worked in a group to create a traditional Nicaraguan dish and recipe. Her sponsorship covered the costs of this activity. Brisney’s school had activities celebrating Mother’s Day and International Kid’s Day and she was able to participate in these events.

December 2015

Brisney is a smart girl who is excelling in almost all of her classes. Her top grades are in language arts (97%), social studies (93%), culture (95%), and math (92%). We are proud of the progress that Brisney has made this year as she has raised her grades in every class. In math, her class did a unit on basic fractions and is now studying order of operations. In September, Brisney was able to participate in the Independence Day Parade with her school as one of the top students. This was the first year that her school was also asked to participate in the big, main parade as well as their smaller one for elementary schools. All the students were so excited and absolutely loved being a part of it. Brisney was able to receive the things she needed to participate in this parade through her sponsorship. She also went to the New Song Clinic to have some minor dental work done and received her second uniform and pair of school shoes of the year. Brisney has also start playing baseball on the Santa Matilde baseball team with her dad as coach. Brisney is struggling some as she enters her preteen years to decide who she wants to be. She is feeling a lot of peer pressure and is going to have to make hard decisions as she enters this stage of life. Please continue to pray for her.

April 2016

Brisney started the fifth grade at the beginning of February. She was honored as the top student for fourth grade at the school’s graduation ceremony in December last year. Brisney is incredibly intelligent and is working hard to stay out of the drama that many of her friends are getting themselves into. Through her sponsorship, Brisney received her uniform, backpack, school supplies, shoes, and an athletic outfit to be able to participate in her physical education class. Her favorite class is her vocational class because she loves learning about trees and the environment. Her class has even gotten to plant trees on the school property, which she loves. In social studies, her class is learning about maps and the different countries in Central America. She has also been learning about blood types and the importance of donating blood. Brisney continues to play baseball in the New Song league. Her team is called the “Cardinals.” She loves getting to spend time with her dad during the games.

Fall 2016

Brisney received her second uniform of the year in July. She is halfway through her fifth grade year and is doing great! Her top grades are in physical education, her vocational class, and civics (all 100%). Her lowest grade is in math and she is still doing very well (89%). We are so proud of her. In school, Brisney loves doing arts and crafts and practicing drawing. She has been learning about body parts and their functions and how to care for and protect the environment. Her school also had a school-wide event celebrating typical Nicaraguan foods. Sponsorship helped provide the funds for this event and the church came together to cook for the school. Brisney also received her annual dental cleaning and fluoride treatment through the New Song Dental Clinic. Recently, her community was without running water for a couple of weeks. Sponsorship provided the local school with a bucket for every classroom so that the students could have drinking water while in class. Brisney loved seeing Cam and Landon in August! Thank you for your love for her and her family.
