Bio

Danis is the middle child of five. He is smart and attentive, and one day hopes to be an agricultural engineer. He started school late at nine years old, due to needing various operations when he was younger, but is hard at work to catch up with his peers. He is currently enrolled in a class in which he will complete 3rd and 4th grade in one year. His favorite classes include math, Spanish, and physical education – and he loves to run around, playing baseball, soccer, hide and seek, and cops and robbers. His father used to work for the sugar cane fields, before the onset of kidney disease left him unemployed. Danis’ mother sells tortillas in town to supplement their minimal income from her husband’s insurance payouts.

Danis is so excited to be sponsored - he loved getting to meet his sponsor, and is grateful for the extra support to both him and his family. He is finishing up the school year with decent grades, although he hopes to do even better in the years to come. Sponsorship has provided him with a new set of shoes, a bookbag, and materials for his many school projects, as well as providing food aid for his family. He is excited to spend some time swimming at the local dam over his vacation, and is had a great time celebrating his birthday in December!

April 22, 2015

Danis finished his school year in December and began his fifth grade year at the beginning of February. We are so proud to see him working hard and putting forth an effort. He enjoyed his vacation from school for his two month break. Danis has been helping his family more around the house since the death of his grandmother. Her death was sudden and difficult for them, but they have been doing better recently. Through Danis’ sponsorship, he received his uniform, school shoes, backpack, and supplies to begin the new year. He also received a separate uniform to be able to participate in his physical education class as well as a special textbook. In order to sign Danis up for the school year, his family needed a new copy of his birth certificate. His sponsorship was able to cover that cost. Danis and his family received a water filter and a teaching on water borne illnesses. This will provide them with clean drinking water for the next several years.

July 2015

Danis is working very hard in school this year. He enjoys school especially his Spanish class. In math, Danis is learning about long division. He comments that although division is a difficult subject, he understands it. Danis received his second uniform and school shoes of the year as well as supplies and funds to complete several class assignments and projects. He was also able to see the doctor at the New Song Clinic when he wasn’t feeling well. Danis’ school had several events celebrating Mother’s Day and International Kids’ Day. He was able to participate in these events thanks to his sponsorship.

November 2015

Danis worked hard to succeed in the last part of the school year. He finished his fifth grade year at the beginning of December and is excited to be on vacation from school. He is looking forward to playing with his family and neighbors while he is not in classes. Danis’ little brother recently got sick and has been out of school. It has been a blessing for the family to not have to worry about Danis’ school costs so they can focus on getting his brother better. Danis has been playing on his community baseball team in New Song’s league. He is on the oldest team and really likes to play especially when he gets to bat. In school, Danis’ favorite classes are math and language arts. He especially likes languages arts because he loves to read and write. In math, Danis needs to practice his multiplication tables so he knows them from memory. In school, Danis struggles the most with paying attention in class and not being a disruption. His family encourages him to do well in all of his classes. Through his sponsorship, Danis was able to get a new bed as he was sharing a broken one with several people in his family.

April 2016

Danis began 6th grade in February 2016. He received his uniform, shoes, backpack, school supplies and an athletic outfit to participate in PE. His favorite class is math because he enjoys multiplication and division. Danis has also been interested to learn about ecosystems in science and verb conjugation in Spanish. Thanks to his sponsorship, he was able to visit the doctor through the New Song clinic when he was sick earlier this year. Danis continues to play baseball through the sports ministry at New Song Mission. He was thrilled to receive a baseball uniform and pair of cleats for the opening day of the league in January. Danis loves playing as a part of the Nuevo Amanecer team!

Fall 2016

Danis is currently in his last year of elementary school and has not been putting forth his best effort in his classes. Danis is also struggling completing sponsorship requirements. He has a C average overall. His best grades are 100% in both PE and Vocational Studies and 84% in Natural Science. He is looking forward to his upcoming graduation in December. Danis received his new uniform and shoes for the second semester of classes. He also received additional school supplies that he needs to be successful in class. In Language Arts, Danis has been reading and analyzing scientific texts. In Science, they have been studying human reproduction and sexual education. Thanks to his sponsorship, Danis was once again able to receive needed medical care and medicine through the clinic at New Song. Danis continues to play baseball for the Nuevo Amancecer team through New Song’s sports ministry.
