Bio

David lives with his mom and three older siblings. David's mom struggles to raise four children as a single mother. She does odd jobs washing laundry for people in the community, but the family is often without food and have to rely upon extended family members to help feed the children. David is currently in 2nd grade. In his free time he likes to ride bikes and play with his brother, Tito. David wants to be a chef when he grows up.

Thanks to your sponsorship, David received a new uniform and pair of shoes for the 2nd semester of classes. David also received a new backpack when his broke. Also thanks to sponsorship, David was able to receive a health check-up from the general physician at the New Song clinic. He also visited the doctor at the New Song clinic a 2nd time to treat a cough and sore throat.

David has a C average in his classes. His best grades are in PE and civics, but his favorite class is math. He has enjoyed learning how to add numbers up to 1000. Thanks to sponsorship, David was able to receive medical care through the New Song clinic to treat a stomach virus. He was also able to receive extra school supplies for special class projects and for an end of the year celebration. Sponsorship also provided food provisions for David's family during a time of unemployment. David was also able to have a special dinner with his family to celebrate his birthday in December. He was so excited to celebrate his special day! David just finished 2nd grade at the beginning of December and is excited to move on to 3rd grade in February 2014.

David began the third grade in February. His favorite classes so far are math and literature. He especially enjoys working with numbers in his classes. Through his sponsorship, David received his uniform, backpack, and the school supplies he needs to be successful in his classes. David’s family also received some extra needed food provisions to help them through a difficult time. Through a new initiative in the sponsorship program, David was able to receive a medical and dental checkup before the new school year at the New Song clinic. Based on his checkup, he also received some needed medicine through sponsorship.

August 25, 2014

David is doing well in school. His top grades are in math, culture, and physical education. His report card reflects that he has good attendance and that he is always on time. David’s sponsorship helped cover the costs of a special Mother’s Day event at his school. He also received extra school supplies for class projects. When asked what his favorite class is, David says he enjoys them all. In Spanish, David is learning about stories. He likes reading and enjoys listening to the different books that his teacher reads, too. David’s math class is learning division and multiplication. Through the sponsorship program, David participated in a dental hygiene clinic to learn how to properly brush his teeth.

David finished his third grade year in November. He teacher commented that tried hard in his classes and was well behaved unless he was sitting beside distractions. At the end of the year, he was learning how to add and subtract large numbers while continuing to practice his multiplication tables. David’s class has had many different activities to engage in them in culture. The class brought in different kinds of foods and ate a traditional meal together. His sponsorship helped David with several school projects, one of which he printed out and studied different kinds of maps.

David enjoyed his break from school spending a lot of time playing with his brother and cousins. During the school break, David was able to receive free medical care and medicine from the New Song clinic. He and his family also attended a public health teaching on water-born illnesses and received a water filter for their home to ensure that they have access to clean water at their home. David started 4th grade in February 2015. He received his uniform, shoes, backpack, and school supplies for the new year. David is enjoying his new classes so far. In math they have been learning about place value and working with numbers in the thousands. In Language & Literature, David’s class has been reading stories and working on reading comprehension.

His best grades are in PE and Social Studies (90% in both), Civics (89%) and Cultural Studies (87%). His most difficult class is math. David’s teacher says that he would improve this grade with more faithful school attendance and more practice with his basic mathematics facts. Through his sponsorship David received an athletic outfit to fully participate in his PE class as well as a new uniform and shoes for his second semester of classes. He was able to participate in the mother’s day and children’s day celebrations at his school. David was able to visit New Song’s clinic and receive free medical care. Sponsorship provided David and his family with food provisions when they were going through a difficult financial time.

David finished fourth grade with a C average overall. His best grades are in PE (90%) and Civics (80%). He continues to struggle with math as his class has studied fractions and continued to review long division. Through his sponsorship, David was able to complete special class assignments. He also received free medical care and medicine through the New Song clinic. When David’s bed broke, his sponsorship was able to provide him with a new one. David has joined a baseball team through New Song’s baseball ministry. His aunt coaches his team. David has loved playing in the scrimmage games with teams from the other communities and is excited for the league to officially begin in January 2016.

April 2016

David started fifth grade in February 2016. He received his uniform, shoes, backpack, school supplies and an athletic outfit to participate in his PE class. David has worked hard to improve his grades. Last year he was struggling with math, but this year he says that it is his easiest class because he has improved in his multiplication and division skills. David is learning how important it is to study hard and has realized that his grades will be low if he does not do his part and study. We are excited to see David stepping into greater responsibility in his schooling and to see how he will grow this year. David is no longer playing baseball at New Song Mission. Once the league began, he was too old to play for his aunt’s team. He decided not to play for another team in the older league.

Fall 2016

David is such a sweet kid! He works hard, wants to be helpful, and loves hugs. He continues to work hard in fifth grade, but struggles with his self-discipline in class. David is passing all of his classes, but maintains low grades and we know that he could do better. His best grade is 80% in PE. David has really enjoyed his Language Arts class where they have been dividing sentences into their subjects and predicates. David received his new uniform and pair of shoes for the second semester of classes. His sponsorship also provided him with a handwriting book that he needed for his Language Arts class. Through his sponsorship, David was also able to participate in a field trip with his school to visit an aquatic park. He was also able to receive medical care and medicine at the New Song clinic.
