Bio

Eduardo lives with his mom. His dad walked out on the family. Eduardo spends most of the time being cared for by his aunts and uncles while his mom works. They are a very close-knit family who love one another and are active members of the local church. However, the family struggles financially. They live in a small house made of sheets of plastic. Eduardo’s mom is working for Ingenio San Antonio cutting sugar cane. She only works 6 months of the year (November-May). When she is working, they are able to meet their basic needs. When she is without work, she and Eduardo struggle to survive. Eduardo will begin third grade in February 2014. He is very intelligent and an excellent student. His favorite class is math. He loves playing baseball. In his free time, he plays ball and works on his homework. Eduardo dreams of becoming an engineer.

Eduardo continues to be an excellent student. He is enjoying his classes this year. He has all A’s and B’s in his classes. His highest grades are in Math, Spanish, and PE. Eduardo’s favorite class is math. He really enjoys learning about division. In his Spanish class, the third graders have been reading various genres of stories and practicing their comprehension. His sponsorship allowed him to participate in a field trip with his school. Eduardo also received his new uniform and shoes for the second semester of classes. Thanks to your sponsorship, we were able to provide Eduardo with food provisions when his mom was without work, but she is now working again. Eduardo is staying with his aunt and cousins while his mom is working.

January 5, 2015

Eduardo has finished his year in third grade and is enjoying the break from school. Eduardo completed the year with a B+ average overall. His best grades were in Cultural Studies (100), PE (90) and both Science and Social Studies (86). Through his sponsorship Eduardo was able to participate in his school’s end of the year celebration. In December, Eduardo and his family participated in a health teaching on water-born illnesses and his family received a water filter for their home to ensure that they have clean drinking water. Eduardo is enjoying his time at home with his family and will begin 4th grade in February 2015.

June 13, 2015

Eduardo began his fourth grade year at the beginning of February. He always does well in his classes and is enjoying what he is learning. Eduardo is so smart and such a sweet boy. His aunt continues to help care for him much of the time. In math, Eduardo is working on large number multiplication and order of operations. His favorite class is Language Arts. He is learning about word and letter sounds and has been writing longer sentences and paragraphs. He received his uniform, backpack, school shoes, and supplies for the beginning of the year. Eduardo’s sponsorship also provided him with a separate uniform so he can fully participate in his physical education class.

November 2015

Eduardo is doing extremely well in his classes. His teacher comments that he is well behaved and attentive. He is the sweetest little boy! His favorite class is Spanish because, he says, that he doesn’t like numbers in math class. In Spanish, he is learning about the characteristics of magazines and newspapers. His math class is learning about rounding with numbers including decimals. Through his sponsorship, he received his second uniform and pair of school shoes. He was also able to participate in his school’s Mother’s Day event. He was honored as a top student in his class and took part in a parade with the other top students. Eduardo continues to spend a lot of time under the care of his aunt who loves him. He enjoys playing with his cousin and their neighbors after school.

April 2016

Eduardo began the fifth grade at the beginning of February. He continues to excel in his classes. Thanks to his sponsorship, he received his uniform, backpack, shoes, school supplies, and an athletic outfit to be able to participate in his physical education class. His favorite class is math because he likes to learn about multiplication and division. In social studies, Eduardo is learning about the geography of Central America. He has completed several maps of the region. His class is also learning about blood types and the importance of donating blood. Recently, Eduardo’s mom left to work in Costa Rica leaving him in the care of his aunt. His sponsorship provides Eduardo with all the tools he needs to succeed academically. Eduardo participates in the New Song baseball league. He is a member of the Cardinals and has even pitched for several games.

Fall 2016

Eduardo received his second uniform and pair of school shoes of the year in July. He is halfway through his fifth grade year and continues to succeed in his classes. We are so proud of how well he is doing. His top grades are in civics, physical education, and his vocational class (all 100%). His behavior grade is also 100%. Eduardo is a very sweet boy who works hard in his classes. He says that the most interesting thing he has learned so far this year is how to figure out the meaning of a word based on context clues. New Song’s baseball league started up again in August and Eduardo is excited to be able to continue to play. His school also had a school-wide event celebrating typical Nicaraguan foods. Sponsorship helped provide the funds for this event and the church came together to cook for the school. Eduardo also received his annual dental cleaning and fluoride treatment through the New Song Dental Clinic. Recently, his community was without running water for a couple of weeks. Sponsorship provided the local school with a bucket for every classroom so that the students could have drinking water while in class.
