His mom looks for odd jobs to help the family meet their basic needs.Edwin will begin his third year of secondary school (US equivalent of 10th grade) in February 2014. His favorite classes are math and natural science. Edwin dreams of becoming a mechanic when he grows up.

April 16, 2015

The Aguilar family has continued to struggle with their dad’s illness. Their dad had been growing violent due to his progressing illness. For awhile he was living in Bethel with his parents. However, Edwin has been regaining his strength and has calmed down. He is back at home with his family and they are thankful that he is doing better. Please continue to pray for Edwin, his wife, and his children. This has been a very difficult ordeal for them all. Edwin finished his third year of high school. His grades had lowered significantly due to all that they were facing at home. He worked very hard the last grading period in order to pull up his grades and pass for the year. He and his family received a water filter to ensure that they had clean drinking water in their home.

May 29, 2015

Edwin started his fourth year of high school in February 2015. He received his uniform, shoes, backpack, and school supplies. He also received an athletic outfit to fully participate in his PE class. Through his sponsorship, he was able to create maps and to purchase a book that he needs for his classes. Edwin and his family are still struggling with his dad’s illness. Over the last several months, Edwin has been shouldering a great deal of the responsibility in caring for his dad. For several months, his dad would only eat when Edwin fed him. It has been difficult for Edwin and his family. Thankfully his dad’s strength and energy has increased. He was even able to get out of bed and attend church services a couple times this month. This has been an answer to prayer for the entire family. Even with these improvements, his dad’s strength continues to come and go.

November 2015

Edwin and his family continue to battle with his dad’s illness. This prolonged illness has certainly taken a toll on the entire family. Please continue to pray for them to be strengthened each day and for healing for Edwin’s dad. He has now begun dialysis in Managua. This has taken an added toll on the family and Edwin and his brother Jason are staying home alone while his parents are in the hospital in Managua. During a particularly difficult time for the family, we were able to provide them with food provisions through their sponsorship. We were also able to provide Edwin’s mom with work washing clothes for some of our New Song staff. This enabled her to earn income while still being at home to care for her husband. With the extra responsibility at home as well as the emotions he faces caring for his dying father, Edwin has been struggling in school. At the end of his first semester he was failing both math and geography. Edwin will have to attend summer school to make up his geography class because this class is only taught first semester; he is working hard to bring up his math grade in the second semester. His best grades are in Civics and PE (both 80%). His sponsorship continues to support him greatly allowing Edwin to complete research at local cyber cafes for several classes, complete class projects, cook traditional Nicaraguan food for his Cultural Studies class, and participate in a field trip to the capital city of Managua. Thank you for supporting Edwin and his family during this trying time.

April 2016

Edwin began his fifth and final year of high school at the beginning of February. Thanks to his sponsorship, he received his uniform, backpack, shoes, school supplies, and an athletic outfit to be able to participate in his physical education class. His sponsorship also covered the costs of a biology textbook and a textbook for his vocational class. He was also able to complete several projects including portfolio of the works of Nicaraguan author and poet, Ruben Dario. Edwin’s father began to receive dialysis in the capital city of Managua. He has to make the two-hour trip there three times a week to receive his treatment. Edwin will graduate from high school at the end of this year. We are excited for him to complete this milestone.

Fall 2016

Edwin received his second uniform of the year in July. This is the last uniform he will receive has he graduates from high school in December! We are so proud of this accomplishment as it has been a difficult year for him. Edwin’s dad is doing much better as the dialysis is helping him to be able to participate in his family. This has taken a lot of stress off of Edwin as he works to finish the year. Through his sponsorship, Edwin received all of his needed school supplies and was able to go on a field trip to the capital city of Managua. From his first report card to his second, Edwin raised his grades in math, English, his vocational class, physics, and biology. We are so proud of him! He continues to receive 100% in his conduct grade for class. Edwin comments that the most interesting thing that he has learned so far has been the biology of human life. He also says that he would love to meet you and is very thankful for your help. In June, Nicaragua experienced a strong earthquake. Unlike most people who were terrified, Edwin says that it is normal and wasn’t scared.
