Ernesto began his first year of university at the beginning of February. He is so thankful and excited for this opportunity! We are so proud of him. This is a huge step for Ernesto as he chose to attend a school that has the academic curriculum that he wants even though he didn’t know anyone when the he started. Ernesto was a little nervous to begin school in a completely new environment but has loved what he his studying. Ernesto has mostly been taking his foundational classes for both his engineering degree and the English part of his studies. He comments that university is much more difficult that high school but is looking forward to the challenge. He continues to stay active in New Song church. He recently began participating in a photography course offered by New Song. Ernesto is excited about the opportunity to learn more about photography. He was so excited to participate in two galleries that presented his work. His class also traveled to another city for four days photographing a coffee farm. This class has been an incredible experience for him. Thank you for this investment in Ernesto’s life.

December 2015

Ernesto is doing very well in his classes at the university! He received his report card and his top grade is in Intensive English Grammar (96%). He has a 83% and 89% in programming and engineering, respectively. His lowest grade is in math (70%) and he is working to bring up this grade. Ernesto is enjoying his classes especially his engineering class. Ernesto’s dad is the pastor of one of New Song Mission’s churches. This church is going through a transitional period and has moved locations to better help the community. Ernesto has plays a key role in the church, helping with many different things and teaching a Sunday school class. He teaches the class of kids who are 10 years old and younger. Recently, Ernesto’s dad was able to travel to the United States to receive two prosthetic legs as he lost both of his legs from the knee down fighting in the Nicaraguan Civil War many years ago. This has been a huge blessing to the entire family as he is able to play a more active role in the church and at home.

April 2016

In March, Ernesto began his second year of university. He is doing so well in his classes and continues to be one of our top university students. By far his most difficult class has proven to be calculus. Out of the entire class last year, only four students passed the class. Ernesto was one of those four students. He works so hard to do well and is very appreciative of your support for him. Ernesto and his family recently moved to live on the other side of the river. This is closer in town and is easier for them to get around. As Ernesto’s father is the pastor at the church, which was located on their property, the church moved as well. They have enjoyed getting to know a different area and becoming part of the community. Ernesto teaches a Sunday school class and really enjoys it. His class is the oldest class of youth aged students.

Fall 2016

Ernesto continues to excel in his first year of university. He is enrolled in English 6 as part of a joint program studying engineering and English combined. Ernesto always does well in his English classes. In his last grading period, Ernesto took physics, calculus 3, English, and a laboratory study class. He passed all of his classes with all but calculus being top grades. Ernesto was unhappy with his calculus grade but was one of only half the class to pass. We are proud of the work he is putting into his area of study. Currently, Ernesto is enrolled in physics 2, web design, English, and applied mathematics.
