Bio

Erwin lives with his parents and six siblings. The family lives in a tiny house with only one bedroom. Ervin’s mom doesn’t work. His dad works for the sugar cane company. The family greatly values education and makes sacrifices to make sure that their children are able to study. Previously, Erwin had been sick for years with a severe type of anemia. His family didn’t know what to do. He was hospitalized several times, but the family was unable to provide the medication he needs. His mother has a great faith in the Lord and began praying that the Lord would heal Erwin. And He did! The church prayed together for Erwin and the Lord healed him. His doctor confirmed that Erwin no longer has anemia. Erwin will begin 6th grade in February 2014 and celebrate his primary school graduation at the end of this year. His favorite class is social studies. In his free time, Erwin likes to play with his brothers. He also studies English on Sundays through New Song’s community English classes. When he grows up, he wants to be an industrial mechanic.

Erwin began his fist year of high school at the beginning of February. He is really enjoying high school and attends school with other people from his community even though the school is further away. He attends the same school as his older brother, Ramon. He received his uniform, backpack, school shoes, and the materials he needed to begin the year. He also received a separate uniform to be able to fully participate in his PE class. Erwin is succeeding academically and is blessed to have his mom encouraging him. Erwin really enjoys his English class, which is part of the reason why he loves high school so much. His hardest class is geography because of the heavy workload. His family saved up enough money to be able to purchase a small, inexpensive laptop to help him and his siblings with his assignments.

April 2016

Erwin began his second year of high school at the beginning of February. Thanks to his sponsorship, Erwin received his uniform, backpack, shoes, school supplies, and an athletic outfit to be able to participate fully in his physical education class. Physical education is Erwin favorite class because he loves to play sports. In his science class, they have been learning about the human body. His most difficult class is geography, which requires a lot of work with maps. Erwin and his family had a very difficult year last year. His father left the family to move in with another woman in another community. This, understandably, hit the family very hard as it was a complete surprise. Erwin’s mom has had a difficult time and struggles with bouts of depression. His mom’s depression is difficult on the entire family, especially the kids who look to her for strength. As the school year picks back up, the kids have been doing better and have had more to focus on. Erwin’s sponsorship is such a blessing to his family right now.

Fall 2016

Ervin received his second uniform and pair of school shoes of the year in July. He is halfway through his second year of high school and is working hard to keep his grades up. His top grades are in culture and his vocational class (both 100%) and Engish (93%). However, Ervin is currently failing his math class. He is upset with himself for his grade and is working really hard to bring his grade up. In high school, his class studies geography for the first semester and history in the second semester. Ervin’s class has moved onto studying history and is learning about the Incan, Mayan, and Aztec civilizations. As his school prepares for the Independence Day parades, they are studying the national anthems of five Central American countries. In science, Ervin has been studying parts of the body specifically the lungs and their functions. Ervin is studying polygons in math and the Greek root of words in Spanish.
