Bio

Estefany lives with her parents and brother. Her family is very close-knit, but they struggle financially. Estefany’s father only works seasonally in the sugar cane fields (November-May). Her mom tries to supplement their income (especially during the six months each year that her husband is without work) by cooking food that she sells from their home. This income is barely able to provide for their basic needs. Estefany says of her family, “I love them a lot and they really love me too. We always play and have fun together.” Estefany is currently in 3rd grade. Her favorite classes are math and Spanish. In her free time, she likes to play with dolls. When she grows up, Estefany wants to be a teacher.

November 2015

Estefany is so thrilled about her sponsorship. This is a huge blessing for her and her family! Estefany started 5th grade in February 2015. She received her uniform, shoes, backpack, and school supplies to be successful in the new school year. Estefany’s favorite class is math. Her class has been learning to covert fractions to decimals. In science they have been studying various ecosystems. In history, they have been studying Nicaraguan history leading up to Nicaraguan Independence Day in mid-September. Through her sponsorship, Estefany was able to cook a traditional Nicaraguan dish for her Cultural Studies class. We are excited to see how Estefany will grow through her participation in the sponsorship program.

April 2016

Estefany began her last year of elementary school at the beginning of February. Thanks to her sponsorship, she received her uniform, backpack, shoes, school supplies, and an athletic outfit to be able to participate in her physical education class. Her favorite class is science because she loves learning about how to care for animals and plants. She also enjoys learning about reproduction. Estefany is excited to learn new things this year. Spanish is Estefany’s easiest class, but she struggles some with her math. Estefany has been attending New Song’s youth group and comments that God has been moving in her life as she learns new things about Him. Estefany’s dad has been sick with a kidney infection recently, but is now feeling better. Her mom does not work. It is only through sponsorship that Estefany can study consistently with the tools she needs.

Fall 2016

Estefany is working hard in her last year of elementary school. She has a C average overall for her first semester of classes. Her teacher comments that she attends class everyday and participates well in class activities. Estefany received her new uniform and shoes for the second semester of classes. She has learned how to give class presentations this year. Estefany’s class is close knit. They enjoy their teacher and she has a great relationship with her students. Estefany is looking forward to celebrating her graduation from elementary school in December.
