Bio

Estefany lives with her parents in a concrete home. Her dad has kidney disease and has been undergoing dialysis since August 2014. Estefany often helps her dad manage his medicines and helps to care for his wound at the site of the dialysis port. Their family survives on the small pension that he receives from the sugar cane company. Estefany started her first year on secondary school (7th grade) in February 2015. She is outgoing, full of laughter, and always joking with everyone. She loves school, especially her Language and Literature class. Estefany dreams of becoming either a doctor or nurse when she grows up to help others who are facing medical needs like her dad.

November 2015

Estefany has been working hard in her first year of high school. She enjoys school especially spending time with her friends. On her second report card of the year, her top grades are in civics (90%), and geography (87%). She is doing well in many of her other classes. However, Estefany has been struggling in her science class but is working hard to bring her grades up. Estefany enjoys learning but is having a difficult time balancing the pressures of being a young teenager and succeeding in school. She is a bright girl who loves her friends and her family very much. Through her sponsorship, Estefany received her second uniform and school shoes of the year and a separate uniform for her PE class. She was able to receive funds to complete several class assignments involving research at a local internet café. Estefany went on a field trip with her school to the capital city of Managua. She was able to go to the New Song Clinic when she wasn’t feeling well and receive medicine. Estefany’s school held several events celebrating Mother’s Day and International Kid’s Day. With the help of her sponsorship, Estefany was able to participate in these activities.

April 2016

Estefany began her second year of high school at the beginning of February. Thanks to her sponsorship, she received her uniform, shoes, backpack, school supplies, and an athletic outfit to participate in her physical education class. She enjoys school and is an intelligent girl however sometimes can fall into peer pressure. Estefany wants to succeed and maintains good grades. In math, her class is studying statistics and making graphs. Through her sponsorship, Estefany received an ID card that allows her have unlimited access to internet cafes to do research assignments for her classes. To complete the mandatory services hours required by the sponsorship program, Estefany has been working with New Song to keep the mission base clean and helps sweep and clean the church building.

Fall 2016

Estefany continues to do very well in her classes, but does struggle with being a class clown and is easily distracted by her peers. Our sponsorship staff met with Estefany and her parents about her attitude. Estefany is very fortunate to have two parents who really love her and want the best for her. She is working hard to make better choices in regards to her attitude. Estefany has even become a part of our youth leadership group. She enjoyed the opportunity to see you once again when you visited Nicaragua in June. Estefany received a new uniform and pair of shoes for the second semester of classes. In math she’s been working with polynomials. In Language Arts, Estefany is learning to identify the Greek roots of words. This semester she started history and has been learning about the Incan, Mayan, and Aztec civilizations. Through her sponsorship, Estefany was able to receive materials to complete various class projects as well as purchase a book that she needed for one of her classes. Estefany was also able to participate in a class field trip to the capital city of Managua. Thanks to her sponsorship, Estefany visited the New Song clinic where she received medical care and medicine.
