Bio

Francisco lives with his parents and five siblings in a one-room tin house. His mom makes and sells tortillas and his dad works as a day laborer for various farms (as they need extra hands). It is difficult to meet the basic needs of a large family on their small salaries. Francisco is currently in first grade. He is significantly behind in school because many years he has started the school year and was unable to finish. Sponsorship could provide Francisco with the resources to study consistently. He has bright eyes, a joyful smile, and big dreams. His favorite class is math and Francisco dreams of becoming a doctor.

Francisco is so excited to be sponsored! He received his backpack and the school supplies he needs to be successful in his classes. Francisco will also receive a free dental cleaning and fluoride treatment from the New Song Clinic. He began his second grade year in February and received his first report card of the year in May. He is doing so well in his classes! His top grades are in physical education (100%), culture (100%), math (88%), and Spanish (87%). His lowest grade is his conduct grade as he struggles with paying attention in his classes.

October 28, 2014

Francisco received his second uniform and pair of school shoes in July. His favorite class is math. In class they are learning multiplication tables as well as addition and subtraction of two digit numbers. Several months ago, Francisco’s father heard from a man on the street that Francisco was not his biological son. His mom says it is not true, but was causing a lot of drama in their house. Francisco’s dad was not speaking to him and treating him very poorly. However, in the last few weeks, this has gotten much better. His father has realized that he is indeed his biological son. Francisco is doing so much better now! He is playing and laughing with the other kids like usual. His sponsorship provided his family with food provisions to help them through a financially difficult time as well as medicine from New Song Clinic when he was sick.

Francisco has been doing really well recently. While still reserved, he seems so much happier and has been enjoying playing with other kids. He finished the second grade year at the end of November. He is deservedly proud of his grades in school and has even started to attend tutoring. While all the kids and his family call him “Chico,” when asked, he told us he prefers Francisco. One exciting thing that Francisco received at the end of the year was a new bed. He had been sleeping on the dirt floor of his house. Thanks to your sponsorship of Francisco, he was able to get a new bed! He was also able to participate in the end of the year celebration with his class. In December, Francisco and his family received a water filter and teaching on water borne illnesses. This will provide his family with clean, purified water for several years. Thank you for helping to provide this for him!

Francisco started the third grade at the beginning of February. He received his uniform, backpack, school shoes, and the materials he needed for the beginning of the year. He is doing well in third grade and his teacher comments that he is very intelligent. He has been missing a few classes, but his teacher is amazed that he continues to succeed academically. In math, he is learning about multiplication and working to memorize his tables. He received a separate uniform to be able to fully participate in his PE class. Francisco is such a sweet kid and continues to attend weekly tutoring sessions taught by New Song staff. He received his first report card of the year and Francisco boasts about his 100% grade for his conduct and 83% in math.

December 2015

Francisco is doing well in his classes especially in culture (96%) and physical education (95%). His teacher commented that he is often late to class, but his excelling in his math class. He is learning about multiplication of multi-digit numbers and is beginning to study division. Francisco does have some trouble in his Spanish class especially when it comes to writing. Through his sponsorship, he received his second uniform and pair of school shoes of the year. He and his family also received help to patch some of the holes in their roof which is especially important now that rainy season has come.

April 2016

Francisco started the fourth grade at the beginning of February. Thanks to his sponsorship, he received his uniform, backpack, shoes, school supplies, and an athletic outfit to be able to participate in his physical education class. His favorite class is math because he loves working with numbers and learning his multiplication tables. His language arts class is the easiest for him. Francisco turns 15 years old this year. Since being sponsored, he has been able to study consistently instead of only attending part of the year. Thank you for believing in him.

Fall 2016

Francisco received his second uniform of the year in July. He is halfway through his fourth grade year and says that he likes his teacher. Through his sponsorship, Francisco received all of his needed school supplies including notebooks, pens, pencils, and crayons. His school also had a school-wide event celebrating typical Nicaraguan foods. Sponsorship helped provide the funds for this event and the church came together to cook for the school. Francisco also received his annual dental cleaning and fluoride treatment through the New Song Dental Clinic. From his first report card to his second, Francisco raised his grades in almost all of his classes including math, Spanish, culture (which he received 100%), physical education, science, and social studies. We are so proud of his accomplishments. Recently, Francisco’s community did not have running water for a couple of weeks. Sponsorship provided the local school with a bucket for each classroom so that the students would have drinking water while in class. Francisco comments that he loves you a lot and hopes to see you soon.
