Gissell just finished her second year of secondary school. She is an excellent student. She was honored as our top high school student among all the sponsored students in Candelaria and Nuevo Amanecer. This year Gissell has received her uniform, shoes, backpack, and all necessary school supplies through her classes. She works hard and participated in additional classes through her school to continue to increase her math skills.  Through her sponsorship, Gissell was also able to participate in her school’s end of the year celebration. Gissell and her family were also able to receive a water filter for their family to ensure that they have clean drinking water. She will begin her third year of secondary school in February 2015.

April 2016

The last several months have been extremely difficult for Gissell and her family. Her mom passed away suddenly in mid-December. Gissell is now living with her two older siblings and they are taking care of one another. Gissell had an extremely close relationship with her mom and misses her deeply. Her sponsorship was able to help Gissell and her siblings to meet their needs in a first couple of months after her mom’s death. Gissell began her fourth year of high school in February. She received her uniform, shoes, backpack, school supplies and an athletic outfit to participate in her PE class. Gissell is an intelligent girl and places a high priority on her education. She continues to do well in her classes. Gissell also serves as a Sunday school teacher at New Song Mission where she teaches the 9-10 year old girls. She loves working with this age group. Gissell enjoyed the chance to meet with during your time in Nicaragua in March. She also loved the gift that you sent to her.

Fall 2016

Gissell and her siblings continue to heal following their mom’s death. Although they still miss her very much, they are beginning to settle into life together just the three siblings. Thank you for providing the means for Gissell to celebrate her 15th birthday, quincenera, with her family. Although the day was difficult without her mom there, it meant a great deal to Gissell and her family that they were able to celebrate this milestone in her life. Gissell continues to work with the Sunday school program at New Song, but now travels to different classes each week teaching the Bible lessons. Gissell enjoys this new role. Gissell continues to do well in her fourth year of high school. Gissell continues to excel academically. She has an 87% average overall in the first semester of classes. Her best grades are 97% in Physics and 98% in both Chemistry and Language Arts. She received a new uniform and pair of shoes for her second semester of classes. Through her sponsorship, she was able to participate in a field trip with her school to the capital city of Managua. Gissell also received medical care and medicine at the New Song clinic.
