Bio

Helen lives with her parents and two older siblings in a cement house. Their family is very close-knit and loving. Helen says, “My family is great because it’s from God and we sing songs to God together.” Her dad is the pastor of the New Song church in Nuevo Amanecer while her mom takes care of the kids. Helen is currently in 1st grade. She is extremely intelligent and loves school! Her favorite class is language and literature. In her free time, she likes to play at her house with her toys. When she grows up, Helen dreams of becoming a doctor.

Hellen is so excited to be sponsored! She started 2nd grade this month. Through sponsorship, Hellen received her uniform, shoes, backpack, and school supplies for the new year. She was also able to receive extra school supplies for special class projects. Hellen had a sinus infection this month. Thanks to her sponsorship, she was able to receive medical care at the New Song clinic. Hellen and her family were also able to receive food provisions for their family.

Hellen is enjoying her second grade year. She enjoys all of her classes, especially Spanish. She is learning poetry focusing on similes. In math, Hellen is learning her numbers 1 to 100 and how to add them. Hellen’s teacher comments that she is doing very well in her classes. She pays attention and does her work. Her sponsorship was able to help cover the costs of a small birthday party with her family.

Hellen is enjoying school immensely. She loves getting to do her work and spend time with her friends. Her favorite class, currently, is math. She is in the beginning stages of learning about division and has been working on her multiplication tables. In Spanish class, she is learning scientific vocabulary and how to apply it to her sentences. Hellen loves Sunday School. She alternates between the New Song church that is closest to her house and the New Song church that her dad pastors. Her favorite part of Sunday school is the songs and getting to hear the different Bible stories. Hellen is learning about Adam and Eve and really loves that story. Through her sponsorship, Hellen received medicine and an appointment at the New Song clinic when she was sick. Her family also received food provisions to get them through a particularly financially difficult time. Hellen was also able to go to the dentist and receive needed dental care through her sponsorship. Recently, Hellen’s dad has been sick. He has been very weak and unable to do much. He is getting better and hopes to continue to feel better.

Hellen finished her second grade year in December and began the third grade in February. She loves school and was excited to go back with her new backpack, uniform, school shoes, and supplies provided through her sponsorship. We are happy to say that her dad has been feeling better and has been able to fully step back into his pastoring job at his New Song church. At the end of last year, Hellen was able to go to the New Song Clinic and receive much needed dental work. In December, Hellen and her family also received a water filter and a teaching on water borne illnesses. This will provide them with clean drinking water for the next several years.

Hellen is doing well in the third grade. She loves school especially math. Hellen says that math is her easiest class and she loves learning about multiplication. Her class has been working hard to memorize all of her multiplication tables and beginning to practice to do multi-digit math. Hellen says her hardest class is civics. Hellen’s school celebrated Mother’s Day and International Kid’s Day with several activities. She was able to receive the materials she needed to participate in these events. Hellen’s teacher comments that she is a great student who always works hard, pays attention, and loves school.

Hellen is a smart girl and is doing well in her classes. Her favorite class continues to be math where they are studying multiplication of big numbers. Her class also began working on the basic concept of division. Through her sponsorship, Hellen received her second uniform and pair of school shoes for the last half of the year. Hellen is excited because the church that her dad pastors is building a new building. Her dad’s excitement has poured over to Hellen as well and she loves spending time in the new space. Hellen was able to go to the New Song Clinic and receive medicine when she wasn’t feeling well. She also had some minor dental work done.

Hellen began the fourth grade in the beginning of February. Thanks to her sponsorship, she received her uniform, shoes, backpack, school supplies, and an athletic outfit to be able to participate in her physical education class. At the end of the school year last year, Hellen’s top grade was in Language Arts. Hellen does very well in school and is a bright and cheerful student. Her favorite class is writing because she is a good writer and likes to practice her cursive. In math, Hellen is learning to divide and multiply. She says that the most interesting thing that she has learned is to divide fractions. Hellen was excited that all of her family was together for her birthday in March. She loved being with everyone. Hellen’s father continues to serve as the pastor of one of New Song’s four churches.

Hellen is currently in her fourth grade year and is struggling to do her best in her classes. Hellen is an intelligent girl but is receiving barely passing grades due to lack of interest. She likes her teacher who she says is both strict and loving. Hellen received her new uniform and shoes for the second semester of classes. She has been enjoying her Language Arts class the most as they have been working on a poetry unit. Hellen loves to read poems. In math, they have been working on long division. It was such a blessing for Hellen to meet your daughter, Sarah, during her recent trip to Nicaragua. Hellen loved the opportunity to meet part of the family that sponsors her and instantly connected with Sarah.
