Both of the girls have high conduct grades and are consistently on time and present for school. Spanish is currently their favorite class. In math, they are learning long division and multiplication of large numbers. Yaoscar and Janera received their second uniform and shoes for the last part of the school year. In September, their school celebrated Central American Independence Day. The girls were both chosen to perform a dance for the school along with other performances. They really enjoyed being able to participate in this event. Their top grades are in Spanish, which is currently both of their favorite classes. Their class is learning scientific vocabulary and how to apply that to things they are writing about. Yaoscar and Janera are both struggling a little bit with their grades this year, especially in math. They are having some trouble understanding division and how it works. We are encouraging them to come to weekly tutoring sessions to practice this skill.

The twins are enjoying 6th grade, but are both struggling in math. Long division has proven challenging for them. Janera is currently failing math. Janera has issues with division because she still does not know her multiplication tables. Yaoscar is better at multiplication than her sister, but struggles with mental math. Yaoscar has been working really hard to raise her grades. She now has 90% in four of her classes and has raised her Language & Literature and Social Studies grades to B’s. Yaoscar is now passing all of her classes. Janera has been able to significantly raise her grades as well with her best grades at 90% in Cultural Studies, Civics, PE, and Technical Studies. However, Janera is still struggling with math and is failing for the year. We are still unsure whether or not she will graduate with her class. Fall 2016

Yaoscar and Janira are working hard, but are struggling in high school. The transition from elementary school to high school is difficult for many of our students. In the first grading period, both girls were failing their geography class. However, they both worked hard and were able to raise their grades in geography. Both girls have used their id cards to complete class investigations. However, they know little about how to use computers so one of the girls from their village who has already graduated offered to take them to the cyber café to learn more about computers. The girls were excited to develop this skill. Through their sponsorship, the twins were able to participate in a field trip with their class. Janira and Yaoscar also received new uniforms and shoes for the second semester of classes. They have enjoyed learning to complete dialogues in their English class. As a focus on preventative health care, both girls received a dental cleaning, fluoride treatment, and teaching of proper dental hygiene.
