We are so excited to begin to see Jessica really coming out of her shell with a burst of personality recently! Jessica really enjoyed the Independence Hill team that visited. She was always running, chasing, being picked up, and laughing with the team! Through her sponsorship, Jessica received medicine during a time when she wasn’t feeling well. Her class celebrated International Children’s Day and Jessica’s sponsorship allowed for her to participate.

Jessica finished her year of preschool at the beginning of December. Jessica continues to be such a free spirit. We have seen such a change in her from a shy, quiet little girl to an absolutely hilarious, active first grader! Jessica has been coming to weekly tutoring taught by New Song staff. We have been able to work directly with our preschoolers to better equip them to start elementary school. Through her sponsorship, Jessica’s family was able to have a small birthday party for her. Her school also had an end of the year celebration of which her sponsorship was able to cover the costs. Sponsorship was able to provide food provisions for her family and medicine for Jessica when she wasn’t feeling well. Jessica and her family participated in a health teaching on water-born illnesses and received a free water filter for their home to ensure that her family has access to clean drinking water.

Jessica went to the New Song Clinic and then saw a dermatologist for a rash that began to appear on her face coming from and infection. She got the medicine and vitamins she needed and it has since cleared up. Thank you for your continued sponsorship of Jessica as she begins this new school year.

November 2015

Jessica loves school especially learning to read and write. She has been learning her letters and how to write her name. Jessica attends class every day and though her sponsorship, she received her second uniform and pair of school shoes of the year. Her teacher comments that she has some trouble paying attention in class but is a very intelligent girl. We are happy to say that after two specialists, differing opinions, and treatment, her infection is completely gone. Jessica is excited to have her graduation from preschool this year. She is looking forward to being in the first grade!

April 2016

Jessica graduated from preschool in December and started the first grade in the beginning of February. Thanks to her sponsorship, Jessica received her uniform, backpack, school supplies, shoes, and an athletic outfit to be able to participate in her physical education class. Her favorite class is language arts because she enjoys learning her letters and getting to write. Jessica says that her math class is a little difficult for her, but language arts is easy. Her family works harvesting sugar cane. With the harvest season coming to a close in May, Jessica’s sponsorship will allow her to receive the tools she needs to succeed academically throughout the year.

Fall 2016

Jessica received her second uniform of the year in July. She is halfway through her first grade year and says that she really likes her teacher. On her first two report cards, Jessica received advanced standings in all of her classes. She says her favorite thing that she has learned is practicing her reading and writing abilities. In May, her school celebrated Mother’s Day and Jessica loved making cards for her mom. Her school also had a school-wide event celebrating typical Nicaraguan foods. Sponsorship helped provide the funds for this event and the church came together to cook for the school. Jessica also received her annual dental cleaning and fluoride treatment through the New Song Dental Clinic. Recently, her community was without running water for a couple of weeks. Sponsorship provided the local school with a bucket for every classroom so that the students could have drinking water while in class.
