April 22, 2015

Jesus and her family are so excited about her sponsorship! This is a big blessing to their family. In December 2014, Jesus celebrated her graduation from preschool. In February 2015, she started her first year of elementary school. Jesus is very happy about moving on to first grade. Jesus likes first grade, but her teacher says that she has difficulties learning new concepts quickly. Our sponsorship staff will be providing weekly tutoring to help her make the transition well. She received her new uniform, shoes, backpack, and school supplies for the new school year. Through her sponsorship, Jesus and her family also received a free water filter for their family to ensure that they have access to clean drinking water in their home.

July 2015

Jesus has been working hard in first grade. She comes to tutoring every week with our sponsorship staff. She is a hard worker and has satisfactory grades, but she continues to struggle with letter recognition and letter sounds. She is improving, but her progress is slow. Through her sponsorship she has been able to receive books that she needs for her class and has been able to complete special class projects. Jesus also received a second uniform and shoes for the second semester of classes. We look forward to seeing her continue to grow in her phonics skills.

November 2015

We are so proud of Jesus and the progress that she has made in school this year! Jesus has grown so much through weekly tutoring. She has now finished first grade. Although she has struggled this year, she has been able to meet the necessary first grade standards. Jesus is excited that she will be able to move on to 2nd grade in 2016. She is a hard working student and loves to learn. Through her sponsorship, she has also been able to receive medical and dental care through the New Song clinic. Jesus was also able to celebrate her 7th birthday with a special dinner at home with her family. Thank you for making it possible for her to feel celebrated that day.

April 2016

We are so proud that Jesus started the second grade at the beginning of February. Her progress last year was incredibly remarkable. She worked so hard to get her grades up and learn what she needed to pass her tests. She attended weekly tutoring sessions and continues to do so this new school year. Thanks to her sponsorship, she received her uniform, backpack, shoes, school supplies, and an athletic outfit to be able to participate in her physical education class. Her favorite class is math because she enjoys adding and subtracting. Her most difficult class is language arts as reading can be hard for Jesus. However, she receives lots of additional support in her reading skills and is constantly improving. Neither of Jesus’ parents are currently working. It is through her sponsorship that she is able to receive the tools she needs to succeed academically.

Fall 2016

We continue to be incredibly proud of Jesus! This girl works diligently attending school daily and coming to additional weekly tutoring with our sponsorship staff. She is constantly growing as a learner and a reader. Her teacher recently commented that Jesus has grown significantly in her confidence to read aloud in class. Jesus now makes fewer errors as she reads and has improved in her reading comprehension. She is also proud of herself that she has learned to add two-digit numbers when she was previously unable to do so. Thank you for believing in her and helping Jesus to succeed in school.
