Bio

Jimena lives with her mom, dad, and older sister.  The family is often in financial need because her mom is without work and her dad, like many men in the community, works seasonally in the sugarcane fields. This means that he works six months of the year and the family is without income from May-October. Jimena is in the second grade. She just loves school! She dreams of becoming a teacher.

Thanks to sponsorship, Jimena received a new uniform, shoes, backpack, and school supplies, for the new semester. She is doing well in school and has a B average in her classes. Her favorite subject and highest grade is in her Spanish class.

January 10, 2014

Jimena has finished her second year of elementary school. She passed all of her classes and is excited to start third grade in February. Her highest grade is in math and her favorite class is Spanish class. Jimena had a good Christmas and spent time with her family. She loved New Year’s Eve and went to the park with her family. Through her sponsorship, Jimena received extra needed school supplies and food provisions when her family was without food.

May 23, 2014

Jimena received her uniform, shoes, backpack, and school supplies for the new school year. She is now in 3rd grade. She is enjoying her classes, especially math. They have been reviewing addition and subtraction and starting to learn multiplication. They have also been studying poetry in her Spanish class. Jimena and her family were able to receive food provisions through her sponsorship when they were without food.

October 28, 2014

Jimena received her uniform and shoes for the second semester of classes. She continues to be an excellent student. Her teacher says that she is a hard worker and participates well in class. The families in all of Chichigalpa are in the most difficult time of year (August-October) when families have now been out of for several months and resources are running low. New Song Mission's Sunday school in Candelaria has been able to start a children’s feeding program twice a month to provide a meal for each child that is enriched with moringa to provide students with vitamins and nutrients that they are lacking. Jimena has been able to participate in this feeding program. She loves being a part of the Sunday school program in Candelaria and can always be seen with a bright smile on her face. She especially loves to sing in Sunday school.

Jimena finished her year in third grade well. She has a B average overall. Her best grades are in Cultural Studies (95), Social Studies (89) and Language & Literature (89).  Through her sponsorship, Jimena and her family were able to receive food provisions for their family when they were without food. Also, she and her family participated in a health teaching on water-born illnesses and they received a water filter for their home to ensure that they have clean drinking water. Jimena is enjoying her her break from school and is looking forward to starting 4th grade in February 2015.

June 13, 2015

Jimena started 4th grade in February 2015. She received her new uniform, shoes, backpack, and school supplies. Jimena also received an athletic outfit to fully participate in her PE class. Jimena has been enjoying her new school year, especially her math class. She has been learning about order of operations combining addition, subtraction, and multiplication. The first few months of 2015 have been difficult to Jimena and her family. Her dad has been having some health issues and tested in the early stages of kidney disease. Because of these tests results, he was asked to take time off of work to rest and improve his health, hoping that his creatin levels will lower after this period of rest and he will be able to continue working. During this time of rest, her dad is not receiving pay. Through Jimena’s sponsorship, we were able to provide her with some food provisions to help support her family during this time. Her dad’s health has improved some, but the harvest season for sugar cane was finished and so Jimena’s dad began his 6-month period of unemployment in April 2015. Jimena has also been able to visit New Song’s clinic and to receive medication that she needed.

November 2015

Jimena’s family has continued to struggle through difficult times as her older sister has been facing some serious health concerns with her heart. Please keep her family and their health in your prayers. Despite her hardships that she is facing, Jimena continues to excel academically. She has an A- average in her first semester of fourth grade. Although math is her favorite class, it is also her most difficult. Her best grades are in Cultural Studies, PE, and Social Studies (all 100%) and Science (99%). She received a new uniform and shoes for the second semester of classes. Through her sponsorship, Jimena was also able to participate in a school field trip to the southern city, Katarina.

April 2016

Jimena began 5th grade in February 2016. She received her uniform, shoes, backpack, school supplies, and an athletic outfit to participate in her PE class. She is enjoying 5th grade so far. Her favorite classes are Language & Literature and Science. Jimena enjoys studying poetry in her Language class. In science, they have been learning how plant reproduce and grow. Jimena finds this unit very interesting. She has been struggling to understand division, but has been faithfully attending tutoring sessions with our sponsorship staff to improve her math skills. Jimena is very bright and hardworking. We know that she will master division as she continues to practice. Thanks to her sponsorship, Jimena received medical care and medicine at the New Song clinic to help relieve a fever and sore throat.

Jimena continues to be a hardworking student and is doing well in 5th grade. She has a C average overall in her classes. Her best grades are 78% in both Natural Science and Cultural Studies. Jimena is determined to do her best in class. She has been coming to receive extra help with our sponsorship staff on Sundays to practice and improve her long division skills. Jimena received her new uniform and shoes for the second semester of classes. Thanks to her sponsorship, she was able to receive additional school supplies for special class projects. Sponsorship also opened the door for Jimena to attend a field trip with her school. Thank you for continuing to invest in her education.
