Johan is so excited to be sponsored! He really enjoyed visiting with his sponsors in August. His sponsorship is such a blessing to him and his family. His sponsorship has provided him with his uniform, school shoes, and backpack. He really enjoys preschool and loves coming to school to learn new things. Johan has also been able to receive much-needed medical and dental care through the clinic at New Song. He was also able to receive follow-up care with a specialist and medicine when he was having severe nosebleeds. Thankfully he is doing much better now. Johan was also able to celebrate his birthday with his family through the help of his sponsorship.

Johan finished his year in preschool. He loves school and is excited to begin his new year of preschool in February 2015. Johan has been enjoying his break playing with his brother and cousins. He has been practicing counting with his older brother although Johan still struggles with number identification. Through his sponsorship, he has been able to receive continued medication as he heals from his earlier nosebleeds. He and his family participated in a public health teaching through New Song where they learned about water-born illnesses and received a free water filter for their home to ensure that the family has access to clean drinking water. Johan also attended a hygiene teaching where he learned to properly brush his teeth and received a free toothbrush and other hygiene items. Johan received money to be able to celebrate his birthday together with his family and church family at the end of January.

Johan started the new school year at the beginning of February. He received his backpack, uniform, school shoes, and the materials he needed for the beginning of the year. Johan has had some health problems this year and has seen several specialists to try to figure out the cause of his nose bleeds as they continued this year. The doctors feel that these are caused by an issue originating in his brain and has begun to take medicine to treat this problem. His sponsorship was able to help with the costs of these medicines, doctor appointments, and transportation to see the specialists. Because of his health, Johan missed school in the beginning of the year. He is now learning how to count and identify his numbers. To begin the school year, the sponsorship program held a day for boys’ haircuts. Johan was so excited to sport his new haircut at school.

December 2015

Johan has been sick a lot this year. With the help of sponsorship and the local community, he was able to receive a special vitamin to help him with the nose bleeds that he was having and these have improved greatly. However, he has been sick with various colds and stomach issues that have kept him from attending school. His teacher comments that he is intelligent and can do well but has missed a significant amount of school. Johan’s second report card of the year showed that he is understanding most of the concepts academically and socially including expressing ideas, respect, and taking care of his belongings. Through his sponsorship, he received his second uniform and pair of school shoes of the year as well as visiting the New Song Clinic when he was sick. He was also able to get a copy of his birth certificate that the school needed.

April 2016

Johan started the new school year in February. He received his uniform, shoes, backpack, school supplies and an athletic outfit to participate in PE activities. He continues to enjoy preschool and likes to practice his vowels and numbers. Johan spends his free time at home playing with his brothers. Thanks to his sponsorship, Johan was able to celebrate his birthday together with his family.

Fall 2016

Johan continues to do well in preschool. His teacher has given him advanced marks in all of his classes. He loves to learn! Johan received a new uniform and pair of shoes for the second semester of classes. Through his sponsorship, his class received a water bucket so that the students have water during the school day. He was also able to cook a traditional Nicaraguan meal to present for his My World class. As a focus on preventative health care, Johan’s sponsorship provided him with a dental cleaning, fluoride treatment and dental hygiene teaching. In the spring, there were earthquakes in Chichigalpa. Most of the kids were really scared by them, but Johan slept through the entire thing. Also Johan and his family are very excited because his mom is expecting another baby. The boys will be welcoming a baby sister into their family in November.
