Bio

Johnny lives with his mom, dad, and sister. Johnny has a heart condition that requires medical care and puts great financial strain on the family. He may possibly need additional heart surgeries soon. Johnny is an excellent student and will begin 5th grade February 2014. He enjoys math and Spanish classes. Johnny wants to work as a mechanic when he grows up.

April 22, 2015

Johnny celebrated his graduation from 6th grade in December 2014. He and his family were so excited to celebrate this accomplishment! His sponsorship covered the cost of his graduation ceremony. Thankfully he is in good health and his doctors have decided to wait another year before his next possible heart surgery. Johnny was both excited and nervous to start his first year of high school in February 2015. Johnny received his uniform, shoes, backpack, and school supplies for the new school year. He is struggling some to make the transition from elementary school to high school. He misses his old school and says that his new classes are difficult. School has always been difficult for Johnny and this has been a hard transition to make in new classes that require more. He is working hard in school, but it has not been easy.

July 2015

Johnny has been struggling with the transition to high school. For many of our students, this is an extremely difficult transition. School has always been difficult for Johnny, but entering secondary school means that he is studying new classes like English and geography as well as carrying a greater workload. At the end of his first grading period Johnny was failing several classes. His best grades are in Technical Studies (68%) and Geography (65%). He is working hard to improve his grades. Through his sponsorship, Johnny was able to participate in Children’s day and Mother’s day celebrations at his school. He was also able to receive free medical care and medicine at the clinic at New Song. In July he received his new uniform and shoes for the second semester of classes.

November 2015

This has been a difficult year for Johnny. He has struggled greatly with the transition to high school, has been bullied at school, and is now facing a second heart surgery. With all of these difficulties, Johnny is failing several of his classes and will have to repeat his first year of high school. We are working with his family to help find a way for him to receive the heart surgery that he needs. Thank you for your help in this process. Please continue to pray that the Lord will open a door with an organization to provide the surgery that he needs. We will also be working with the family to hire a tutor for Johnny when he starts the next school year. Sponsorship will cover the cost of his personal tutor. This will help Johnny catch up in skills that he lacked this year and will also help if he has to miss school due to illness. We long to see Johnny well and succeeding in school. Please continue to pray for him and his family.

April 2016

Johnny and his family have filed paperwork for consideration with a doctor who may be able to perform his heart surgery. They continue to wait to see if he has been accepted as a candidate surgery. Please continue to pray for them in this process. Johnny began his first year of high school again in February. He received his uniform, shoes, backpack, school supplies and an athletic outfit to participate in his PE class. Johnny’s favorite class is Language & Literature where he has been meditating on the poems of Ruben Dario. Johnny really enjoys learning about the life and works of Nicaragua’s most famous poet. He has also been fascinated to learn the location of all the continents in his geography class.

Fall 2016

Repeating the first year of high school has been so beneficial for Johnny. He is doing much better this year in his classes but he still struggles with being interested in school and completing sponsorship requirements. He has a C average overall in his first semester of classes. His best grades are 96% in Natural Science, 82% in Civics, and 80% in both Language Arts and PE. Johnny received his new uniform and pair of shoes for the second semester of classes. He also received additional school supplies to help him complete special class projects. Although it’s one of his most difficult classes, Johnny enjoys his English class the most. He likes learning the pronunciation of English numbers and enjoyed creating a bulletin board displaying English descriptions of people. Johnny’s sponsorship also provided him with medical care and medicine through the New Song clinic. We are continuing to search for a heart surgeon for Johnny reaching out to doctors in both the United States and Israel. However, it has been difficult to find a surgeon willing to perform the operation given Johnny’s previous heart surgery. Please continue to pray that a door will open for him to get the surgery that he needs.
