Jose Javier received his new uniform and shoes for the second semester of classes. His favorite class is PE. In his math class they are learning to multiply fractions. Jose Javier’s family has been going through a difficult time. His dad suffers from chronic kidney disease and his health has been declining. His mom has taken a job to support the family and his younger sister has dropped out of school in order to help take care of her dad. Fortunately thanks to his sponsorship, Jose is able to continue studying.

January 5, 2015

Jose Javier finished his 3rd year of high school. He is an average student. Jose and his family participated in a health teaching about water-born illnesses through the New Song church. They also received a water filter for their family to ensure that they have access to clean drinking water. This is a tremendous blessing for their family especially with his dad’s kidney issues. Thankfully, his dad’s health is improving and he is doing much better right now. Jose is enjoying his break from school and spending the holidays with his family. He will begin his 4th year of high school in February 2015.

May 29, 2015

Jose Javier began his fourth year of high school at the beginning of February. He received his backpack, uniform, school shoes, and the materials he needed for the beginning of the year. At the end of April, Jose Javier went to the New Song Clinic because he was feeling terrible. After an appointment with the doctor, he was sent to the hospital. New Song’s doctor made an emergency appointment for him to see a specialist there. He was given an ultrasound initially told that he had Hepatitis. Jose received medicine, more exams, and another appointment with an internist. He continued to steadily improve so quickly that doctors are not certain what was the cause of such a severe sickness. We are so thankful that Jose is feeling completely better. His sponsorship was able to cover all of his medical costs. He is now back in school but missed three weeks of school during this time. Jose has spoken with his teachers and they are working with him to get all his makeup work completed.

November 2015

Jose is working hard in his classes to bring his grades up from when he was sick. Jose’s health has improved significantly and he is back to normal activities. He has had several follow-up exams to ensure that he is better. Even though Jose is attending class daily, he is having difficulty catching back up. Through his sponsorship, he received his second uniform and pair of school shoes and was able to go on a school field trip to another city. Jose was also given supplies to complete several class assignments.

April 2016

Jose Javier started his fifth and final year of high school in February 2016. He received his uniform, shoes, backpack, school supplies and an athletic outfit to participate in his PE class. Thanks to his sponsorship he was able to purchase books that he needed for his geography and vocational studies classes. His favorite class is Language & Literature because he enjoys increasing his vocabulary and learning new words. His most challenging class is English as they have been working on translating biographies from Spanish to English. Jose Javier is happy that his dad’s health has improved recently. He still has kidney disease, but his creatin levels have been lower and he has had greater energy recently.

Fall 2016

Jose Javier has been struggling in his classes this final year. At the end of the first grading period he was failing biology. In the second grading period he was able to raise that grade significantly, but is still failing biology for the semester. He will be working hard to continue raising his biology grade next semester. His class has currently been studying DNA in his biology class. Our sponsorship staff has met with him about continuing to work hard and finishing well. Jose Javier is ready for his high school graduation at the end of this year. Jose Javier received a new uniform and pair of shoes for the second semester of classes. This will be his last school uniform. Thanks to his sponsorship, Jose Javier was able to participate in a class field trip to the capital city of Managua. They were able to attend the national science fair. He has also been working diligently to complete his senior project. Jose Javier will be presenting on the first five works of Ruben Dario, Nicaragua’s most famous poet. Jose Javier is happy that his dad’s health continues to improve now that he is receiving dialysis. This has been a struggle for the family financially because his dad has to travel to the capital city three times a week to receive treatment. His mom makes and sells tortillas from their home, but it is difficult on this small income to meet their family’s needs and provide transportation funds for his dad’s treatments.
