Bio

Jose Antonio lives with his mom and brother. His father is in prison. His mother is doing everything she can to care for her boys by herself. She travels to Leon, a city 40 minutes away, to work as a maid. The boys’ grandma cares for them during the day while their mom is at work. Jose Antonio started 2nd grade in February 2014. His favorite classes are Spanish and math. Jose Antonio wants to continue studying and then get a good job so that he is able to help and sustain his mom.

Jose Antonio is so excited to be sponsored! This is such a blessing and answer to prayer for his family. Jose received the school supplies that he needed to finish out his school year successfully. He completed 2nd grade in November 2014. Jose is extremely intelligent. He finished the year second in his class with an overall average of 91%. Jose has been attending weekly tutoring sessions with our sponsorship staff further developing his skills in reading and math. Jose learns new things very quickly. He and his family were able to attend a public health teaching through New Song where they learned about water-born illnesses and received a water filter for their family so that they will have clean drinking water at their home. He also participated in a hygiene teaching where he learned to properly brush his teeth and received a free toothbrush. Jose has been enjoying his vacation. He has been spending a lot of time practicing baseball with his friends. He will be joining a new baseball league through New Song for children 12 and under. Jose is very excited about playing on this team! He began 3rd grade in February 2015.

May 29, 2015

Jose began the third grade at the beginning of February. He is a great student and comes to weekly tutoring taught by New Song staff. Jose received his uniform, backpack, school shoes, and the supplies he needed for the beginning of the year. His teacher comments that he is highly intelligent and pays attention in class. At the beginning of the year, Jose’s mom got really sick and was unable to work for several weeks. Through his sponsorship, he received food provisions to get them through this time. Jose was able to go to the New Song Clinic for his annual dental cleaning and fluoride treatment. Based on this dental check-up, Jose received some extra needed dental work. Through his sponsorship, Jose was given a separate uniform to allow him to fully participate in his PE class. Thank you for support of Jose. He asks about you both often!

December 2015

Jose Antonio participated in the Independence Day parade with his school in which he was honored as a top student of the third grade. After participating in a smaller parade, the Santa Matilde school was asked to take part in the main celebration. This was the first time this school has participated in the big march. Jose Antonio carried the banner for his school and was excited to be in it. His sponsorship helped to cover the costs of this event. His top grades are in culture (99%) and Civics (96%). He is a very intelligent student who picks up on things quickly and attends class every day. Through his sponsorship, Jose Antonio received his second uniform and pair of school shoes of the year and got a separate uniform to be able to fully participate in his physical education class. Jose is participating in New Song Mission's baseball league. He is on the youngest team and loves to bat.

April 2016

Jose began 4th grade in February 2016. He received his uniform, shoes, backpack, school supplies and an athletic outfit to participate in his PE class. His favorite class is math because he is able to learn new math skills quickly. Jose is a very bright student and continues to succeed in school! After months of practice and scrimmage games, the baseball league at New Song Mission had their official opening day in January. Jose and his team, The Tigers, were so excited to receive their uniforms and cleats. Jose loves being a part of this team!

Fall 2016

Jose continues to excel academically. In the first grading period, his lowest grade is an 86% in math and he has A’s in all of his other classes. By the second grading period, he had straight A’s. Jose is such a bright student! Jose has been very interested to learn about different animals and the types of food that each eats. He received a new uniform and pair of shoes for the second semester of classes. Through his sponsorship, his class received a water bucket so that the students have access to water during the school day. Jose was also able to cook a traditional Nicaraguan meal to present for his Cultural Studies class. As a focus on preventative health care, Jose’s sponsorship provided him with a dental cleaning, fluoride treatment, and dental hygiene teaching. Jose also excelled playing baseball through New Song Mission. He was one of the players chosen to represent his team in the All-Stars game in May.
