Antonio finished his year in third grade well. Antonio has worked so hard this year and has consistently raised his grades through weekly tutoring sessions with our sponsorship staff. He started the school year with all of his grades between 60-70. In the last grading period Antonio had all A’s with his best grades in Science (98), Social Studies (97), and Math (97).  Antonio and his family were able to receive food provisions when they were without food. Also, they participated in a health seminar on water-born illnesses and received a water filter for their home to ensure that they will have clean drinking water. Through his sponsorship, Antonio was able to participate in his school’s end of the year celebration. Antonio is looking forward to starting 4th grade in February 2015.

June 13, 2015

Jose Antonio began the fourth grade in February. He likes school although finds it difficult to sit through class. He is a great kid who is very intelligent. We are so proud of his continued efforts in his classes. Through his sponsorship, Jose Antonio received his uniform, backpack, school shoes, and the materials he needed to began school. He was able to see the doctor at New Song Clinic when he wasn’t feeling well. Jose Antonio has been the subject of some bullying in his school. He has lots of friends but there are some students who have been making fun of him. We are working to encourage and support him in this time. Jose Antonio continues to attend weekly tutoring sessions taught by New Song Staff. He is doing so well! In math, they are learning long division, a typically difficult topic for many students. He understands it and is excelling in these beginning stages. Math is currently his favorite subject and language arts is his least favorite. Thank you for your sponsorship of Jose Antonio as he begins this new year!

We are proud to say that on his second report card, he raised all of his grades and is now passing his classes. He has been attending the weekly tutoring sessions and has improved especially in his multiplication tables. In math, he is learning about rounding numbers including those with decimals. In Spanish, his class is studying the characteristics of magazines and newspapers. Through his sponsorship, he received his second uniform and pair of school shoes of the year. November 2015

We are so proud of how hard Jose Antonio has worked this year! He attends our weekly tutoring every Thursday and tries to do well. His teacher says that he is a great student and does his work in class. He is great at math but sometimes struggles with language arts specifically writing. Jose Antonio reads very well but he has a hard time writing legibly and doesn’t leave space between his words. We have been working on this in tutoring and he is improving. Jose Antonio has improved greatly throughout this year. He has improved more than any other student in our program. We are so proud of his accomplishments!

April 2016

Jose Antonio was so excited to receive your letter and photographs. He talks about “Bryan” all the time and says he is his best friends and how much he misses you both. In the beginning of February, Jose Antonio began the fifth grade. Thanks to his sponsorship, he received his backpack, uniform, shoes, school supplies, and an athletic outfit to be able to participate in his physical education class. His favorite class is math because he says he understand math the most out of all his classes. His most difficult class is social studies in which they have been learning about maps and the different countries in Central America. Jose Antonio’s class has also been learning about blood types and the importance of donating blood. One of the things that Jose Antonio struggles with the most is handwriting. This is why social studies is difficult for him as he is required to copy things down and then answer questions. At weekly tutoring, New Song staff has been working with him to focus more on his handwriting especially leaving spaces between his words. Jose Antonio’s family works collecting peanuts from local fields. As this is not a year-long task, his sponsorship provides him the tools he needs to succeed academically throughout the year. Thank you for believing in him. We are incredibly proud of all he has accomplished and are expecting big things from him.

Fall 2016

Jose received his second uniform and pair of school shoes of the year in July. He is halfway through his fifth grade year and continues to work so hard. School does not come easily for Jose but he puts forth his best effort. Jose’s favorite class continues to be math. Jose struggles the most with his handwriting. We have been working on making sure that he leaves spaces between his words and focusing on letter formation. Through his sponsorship, Jose received all of his needed school supplies including notebooks, pens, pencils, and crayons. His school also had a school-wide event celebrating typical Nicaraguan foods. Sponsorship helped provide the funds for this event and the church came together to cook for the school. Jose also received his annual dental cleaning and fluoride treatment through the New Song Dental Clinic. Recently, his community was without running water for a couple of weeks. Sponsorship provided the local school with a bucket for every classroom so that the students could have drinking water while in class.
