He also received funds for a textbook for his Social Studies class and a separate uniform for PE class. In math, Josue is in the beginning stages of learning long division which can be a difficult topic for many students. April 2016

Josue began the fifth grade at the beginning of February. Thanks to his sponsorship, he received his backpack, uniform, shoes, school supplies, and an athletic outfit to be able to participate in his physical education class. His favorite class is math because he enjoys adding and subtracting. The most difficult part of his classes is learning his division tables. In social studies, his class has been learning about maps and the different countries in Central America. They have also been learning about blood types and the importance of donating blood. Josue is an intelligent student who does very well when he focuses on his classes. At the beginning of March, Josue celebrated his thirteenth birthday. His two other siblings also celebrated birthdays around the same time and through their sponsorships, they were able to have a small celebration for the three kids. Josue’s father works harvesting sugar cane. As the harvest season comes to a close in May, Josue’s sponsorship provides him the materials he needs to succeed all year long.

Fall 2016

Josue received his second uniform of the year in July. He is halfway through his fifth grade year, and has been working hard to bring up his grades from his first report card. On his second report card, Josue raised his grades in math, Spanish, civics, his vocational class, and social studies. In school, his class has been learning about how to care for and protect the environment. Through his sponsorship, Josue received all of his needed school supplies including notebooks, pens, pencils, and crayons. New Song Dental Clinic visited Josue’s community and performed dental cleanings and fluoride treatments for all the sponsored students. Recently, Josue’s community was without running water for a couple of weeks. Sponsorship provided each classroom at the local school a bucket so that the students would have water to drink while in class.
