Kendry and his family are thrilled about his sponsorship! Kendry graduated from preschool in December 2014. He started 1st grade in February 2015. Kendry received his uniform, shoes, backpack, and school supplies. Kendry has been enjoying first grade so far. His teacher says that he participates well in class and is making good progress as a student. Kendry and his class have been learning their letters and letter sounds. In math, they have been learning to identify their numbers, classify greater or less than, and complete basic addition problems. Outside of school, Kendry has enjoyed playing with his siblings and cousins. They have spent many afternoons in April swimming in the inflatable pool at his cousins’ house.

December 2015

Kendry is doing exceptionally well in first grade. His teacher says that he is the top student in his class. Kendry is a great reader! He practices reading at home and decodes words very well including words with consonant blends. His favorite class is math. His class has been learning to count to 100, identify greater than and less than, and has begun to work with place value for tens and ones. Kendry is extremely intelligent, but his teacher says that he is often distracted in class and has a hard time sitting still. Kendry received his new uniform and shoes for the second semester of classes. He was also chosen to participate with his school in the Independence Day parade. During this parade, he was honored as a top student. Kendry’s sponsorship covered the cost of his participation in this event.

April 2016

Kendry began the second grade at the beginning of February. He excelled in the first grade and finished as one of the top student of the class. He was excited to begin school. Thanks to his sponsorship, he received his uniform, backpack, shoes, school supplies, and an athletic outfit to be able to participate in his physical education class. Last year, Kendry’s sisters both graduated from elementary so he no longer has them at the school. In math, Kendry is learning how to tell time on a clock. Kendry was so excited to receive your letter and package. Thank you for believing in him.

Fall 2016

Kendry continues to excel in school and has advanced grades in all academic areas. In Language Arts, he continues to learn to read. They have now moved past reading simple sentences to reading short stories. Kendry is beginning to move beyond phonics and into the beginning stages of reading comprehension. In math they have been working on addition and subtraction of two-digit numbers. Thanks to his sponsorship, Kendry’s class received a water bucket so that the students have water to drink during the school day. He was also able to cook a traditional Nicaraguan dish to present for his Cultural Studies class. As a focus on preventative health care, Kendry received a dental cleaning, fluoride treatment and dental hygiene teaching through the New Song clinic. We are proud of his continued success!
