Keyla is doing so well! She loved having you here to visit with her and get to know you more. Thank you for the great relationship you have with her. She finished her second year of high school in December and began her third year at the beginning of February. She struggles in some of her classes but is an incredibly hard worker. At the end of the year, Keyla participated in a school-wide activity with her physical education class. They performed a dance aerobic exercise routine. Her sponsorship was able to provide her with new shoes to join in this activity. Keyla did such a great job and was fearless when she was on the top of the pyramid. Keyla continues to teach Sunday school and has begun to teach the class of 2-4 year olds by herself. She has such a sweet spirit and the children respond very well to her. Keyla has been helping her stepdad sell dvds during her break from school and continues to help him before her school day. We are so proud of Keyla and all that she is accomplishing. Thanks to her sponsorship, she was able to receive her new backpack, uniform, school shoes, and supplies to begin the year.

Keyla is enjoying her third year of high school but has noticed that this year is much more difficult than her second year. She received her first report card of the year and is passing all of her classes and doing very well in some. Her top grades are in language arts (86%), culture (95%), physical education (100%), and geography (85%). Keyla recently was given funds to have her vision checked at a local eye doctor. The results from this exam were not good and her sponsorship covered the costs of a visit to a specialist in a nearby city. The specialist said that she needed glasses and eye drops to treat an infection. He also helped to get a good price on the glasses. Through her sponsorship, Keyla was able to receive these needed glasses and drops. She said that she has been seeing much better and her eyes do not hurt anymore. Keyla continues to teach the youngest Sunday school class and her students love her sweet, caring spirit.

December 2015

Keyla is such a sweet girl who works hard in everything she does. Keyla is passing all of her classes and has even raised a few grades. She continues to teach Sunday school. Due to a teacher leaving, Keyla changed Sunday school classes and is now teaching the 7-10 year old girls. She loves that age group and they love listening to her teach. Keyla does a great job incorporating songs and activities into her lessons. Recently, Keyla got sick and had to go to the local hospital. They gave her medicines and she has been feeling much better. In October, Keyla celebrated her quincenera, her 15th birthday. This is a big deal in Hispanic culture and Keyla celebrated by having a church service at New Song and with a small celebration at her house afterward. She was so excited to get to do this.

April 2016

Keyla enjoyed the opportunity to visit with you once again during your time in Nicaragua. It is a blessing to her to continue a friendship with her sponsor and to have the chance to minister alongside you here in Nicaragua. Keyla started her fourth year of high school in February. She received her uniform, shoes, backpack, school supplies and an athletic outfit to participate in her PE class. Keyla continues to love school and to succeed in her classes. She loves to read and because of this, Language and Literature in her favorite class. Keyla has also been fascinated studying chemistry this year. For the next several months, Keyla is studying only on Saturdays and Sundays because her school is under construction. Due to this change, Keyla had to step down from her position as a Sunday school teacher, but is planning to return as soon as her school returns to their regularly scheduled classes.

Fall 2016

Construction on Keyla’s school is finally complete and she and the other students were able to return to their daily school schedule.
