Bio

Keysi lives with her parents and older brother in a small house made of wooden tablets and sheets of plastic. Both children are very close with their mom, but struggle financially. Her dad is often without work. He picks up temporary work when it’s available, but work is difficult to find. Her mom earns a little money washing clothes for some of their neighbors. When her dad is working, they are able to meet their basic needs. When he is unemployed, they often go hungry. Her dad also often drinks and can become violent when he is drinking. He sometimes beats their mom. The kids have been greatly affected by this domestic violence. Keysi will begin 2nd grade in February 2014. She is sweet natured and an excellent student. She really loves school and longs to continue studying. She wants to be a good mom (like her mom) when she grows up.

June 2015

Keysi started 3rd grade in February 2015. She received her uniform, shoes, backpack, and school supplies. She also received an athletic outfit in order to fully participate in her PE class. Keysi is doing well in 3rd grade. In her first grading period, she has a B+ average overall. Her best grades are in PE (100%) and Cultural Studies (98%). In Language & Literature, they have been identifying the subject and predicate of a sentence. In math, her class continues to practice multiplication, but has also started a unit on basic division. Keysi has been struggling to understand division, but caught on quickly with additional tutoring from our sponsorship staff.

December 2015

Keysi continues to excel in 3rd grade. She received her new uniform and shoes for the second semester of classes. Her teacher says that she is an excellent student and actively participates in all class activities. Keysi has all A’s and B’s in her classes. Her best grades are 94% in PE, 93% in Civics and 92% in both Cultural Studies and Language & Literature. Keysi participated in her school’s Independence Day parade where she was honored as a top student. Her sponsorship covered the cost of participation in this event. Through her sponsorship, she was also able to participate in a field trip with her class. We are so proud of Keysi’s continued success!

April 2016

Keysi began the fourth grade at the beginning of February. She is a sweet, intelligent girl. Thanks to her sponsorship, she received her uniform, backpack, shoes, school supplies, and an athletic outfit to be able to participate in her physical education class. Her favorite class in school is Spanish because she enjoys reading the different stories. Her most difficult class is math and her easiest is Spanish. Keysi’s mom does not work and they rely on help from extended family members to survive. Her sponsorship gives her the tools she needs to succeed academically.

Fall 2016

Keysi received her second uniform of the year in July. She is halfway through her fourth grade year and continues to do very well in her classes. Her lowest grade is in Spanish, but her grade is still at 89%. Her top grades are in civics (100%), math, science, and social studies (all 91%). We are proud of how well she is doing. She has really loved improving her reading and writing this year. She also learned how to create flowers out of colored paper. Through sponsorship, Keysi received her needed school supplies including notebooks, pens, pencils, and crayons. Her school also had a school-wide event celebrating typical Nicaraguan foods. Sponsorship helped provide the funds for this event and the church came together to cook for the school. Keysi also received her annual dental cleaning and fluoride treatment through the New Song Dental Clinic. Recently, her community was without running water for a couple of weeks. Sponsorship provided the local school with a bucket for every classroom so that the students could have drinking water while in class.
