Bio

Leo lives with his mom, two older siblings, his aunt, and his five cousins. These two sisters are doing everything they can to provide for their children as single moms. Leo’s aunt was diagnosed with CRI (Chronic Renal Insufficiency) five years ago. Since her diagnosis both women have been working washing and ironing clothes for neighbors. They struggle to survive on their small salaries. Leo is currently in his second year of preschool. He attends school even though his family is unable to buy his school uniform (something that few children are willing to do). Leo loves everything about school! Sponsorship would allow him to study consistently and dream for a better future in addition to the medical and dental care that he is in need of.

Leo started his last year of preschool in February 2014. Thanks to sponsorship, he received his backpack, uniform, shoes, and school supplies for the new school year. Leo is enjoying preschool, especially learning to write his letters. He celebrated his 5th birthday in April. His sponsorship allowed him to celebrate his birthday together with his family. He was also able to participate in his school’s celebration for international children’s day. Leo’s mom just started working for the gardening project at New Song. It will be a wonderful way to help her provide for her family. In the interim period before her job started, Leo and his family were able to receive food provisions to help sustain their family. As a focus on preventative health care, Leo participated in a dental hygiene teaching where he received a free toothbrush and learned how to properly brush his teeth. Leo also received his new uniform and shoes for the second semester of classes.

October 28, 2014

Leo continues to do well as he finishes his last year of preschool. He has learned all of his vowels and can count from 1-5. Leo loves going to school. He is getting more and more excited about his upcoming graduation in December. His sponsorship is covering the cost of his graduation ceremony. Leo’s mom just started working a couple days a week cleaning at the New Song missionary house. This job provides her with a small amount of money each week to help care for her children.

April 22, 2015

Leo is really growing up quickly this year! He is so much more like a kid than a toddler now and is quite taller. We are so proud to say that Leo graduated from preschool in December. His sponsorship covered the costs of his graduation so that Leo was able to participate fully in his ceremony. He began his first year of elementary school in the beginning of February. This can be a difficult transition for many students as they move into a more school-like atmosphere. To begin his new school year, Leo received his uniform, school shoes, backpack, supplies, and a separate uniform for his physical education class. In December, Leo and his family received a water filter and teaching on water borne illnesses. This will provide them with clean drinking water for the next several years.
