Bio

Leonardo lives with his parents and several siblings. Leonardo says of his family, “They are the best family because they support me.” Leonardo’s mom works as a maid and his dad is a metal worker. Leonardo is currently in his 2nd year of secondary school (US equivalent of 8th grade). His favorite classes are history, math, and natural science. He is an excellent student and very intelligent. He is also taking community English classes to improve his English. In his free time, he likes to play and to study. Leonardo dreams of becoming a system engineer because he loves working with technology.

Leonardo is so excited to be sponsored! He is an incredibly intelligent student who works hard in his classes. He began his fourth year of high school at the beginning of February. His sponsorship provided him with his uniform, backpack, school shoes, and the materials he needed for his classes. Leonardo’s grades are consistently excellent. He loved getting your packages, gifts, and letters in the mail. He was able to translate your letters with a little help from staff. Leonardo spent his Easter break traveling to see family. His sponsorship provided him with his annual dental cleaning and fluoride treatment.

November 2015

Leonardo is doing so well in his classes! He is smart and his favorite class currently is English. In his English class, he is learning about sentence formation in making comparisons. Leonardo says that he already knows everything that his class is learning. On his second report card, Leonardo’s top grades were in civics (100%) and geography (100%). His lowest grade is in math but he still has an 81%. He says that his math class is the most difficult and Leonardo is working to understand algebra. Through his sponsorship, Leonardo received his second uniform and pair of school shoes of the year. He also was able to receive a scientific calculator to help him with his classes.

April 2016

Leonardo is excited to continue his sponsorship with you. Thank you for making this investment in his education! Leonardo began his fifth and final year of high school in February 2016. He received his uniform, shoes, backpack, school supplies and an athletic outfit to participate in his PE class. Leonardo is extremely intelligent and hard working. He is an excellent student! His favorite class is philosophy because he likes analyzing different schools of thought and believes that philosophy is the mother of all the sciences. Leonardo has become more involved in the church this year. He has become an active part of youth Bible studies at New Song Mission. He was chosen as one of 10 youth to participate in a one-day mission trip to the neighboring city of Leon. Leonardo has a serious demeanor and boundless potential. We believe that he will do great things with his education.

Fall 2016

Leonardo continues to excel in his final year of high school. Leonardo continues to excel in school. His best grades are 100% in both English and Information Studies. His lowest grade is 87% in Math. Leonardo loves to learn and has been especially excited to learn more astronomy and study how immense our universe is. Leonardo received his final uniform and pair of shoes for the second semester of classes. For the remainder of this year Leonardo will be attending classes after school to study and practice for his college entrance exam in January. Leonardo is hoping to be accepted to the Engineering University in Managua. Thanks to his sponsorship, Leonardo was able to celebrate his 16th birthday at home with his family. Leonardo has been growing so much in his faith this year as well. For one of his classes, they have been doing debates on the existence of God. Leonardo has been studying on his own because he desires to understand how to reconcile faith and science, especially in regards to creation. Leonardo has become part of our youth leadership group at New Song Mission. He is working as a Sunday school teacher for 7-9 year old boys and co-leading a project to reach out to the neighboring village of El Getto. Leonardo is beginning to step out of his comfort zone and challenge himself to try new things. It has been a time of big growth for Leonardo. We are so proud of him!
