Luis is so excited to be sponsored! This has been a blessing for his family. He has wished for a sponsor for years. Luis started his first year of high school (7th grade) in February 2015. He received his uniform, shoes, backpack, and school supplies. Luis is enjoying high school. He likes his new classes, especially geography because he loves to study maps and learn about new places. His teacher says that he is an excellent student and participates well in class. Although his teacher praised his class performance, Luis is upset with himself because he wanted to have higher grades at the end of his first grading period. His most difficult classes are math and geography. He is pushing himself to raise his grades in the 2nd grading period.

November 2015

This has been a difficult time for Luis and his family because his grandfather passed away on August 3rd following a 16-year battle with kidney disease. Luis, his mom, and his younger sister live with his grandparents and are a very tight-knit family. They have been mourning greatly for Francisco although his grandmother says that they are glad to know he is no longer suffering and is at rest in the Lord’s presence. Despite the hardship in their family, Luis continues to do well academically and was able to significantly raise his grades in the second grading period. His has an 84% average overall for the first semester. His best grades were in Civics (100%) and Technical Studies (98%). Luis will be honored among the top students in his class and was chosen to march in the Independence Day march in September. He is very excited to be a top student once again! Luis received a new uniform and pair of shoes for the second semester of classes. He was also able to participate in two field trips with his school. Luis enjoyed receiving his gift from you. Thank you for pouring into him. We are so proud of his hard work and success!

April 2016

Luis began his second year of high school at the beginning of February. Thanks to his sponsorship, he received his uniform, backpack, shoes, school supplies, and an athletic outfit to allow him to participate in his physical education class. His favorite class is math because he loves learning how to multiply and divide. He has been learning about graphing and creating different kinds of graphs. Luis says the most interesting thing that he is learning is about the continents including North and South America. He likes what he is learning in geography, but says that it is his hardest class. Luis’ mom has been working at the local grocery store in the meat section. His family has been gradually doing better with the death of Luis’ grandfather. The start of school again and playing in the baseball league has helped Luis get back into the swing of things. Luis is a great baseball player, but he is entering into a stage of life where he is deciding who he wants to be. Luis has been struggling some with peer pressure and having an attitude at time. Being on the baseball team helps him to learn to listen and do what his coaches tell him. Please be praying for Luis in this area. Thank you for your constant support and love for him.

Fall 2016

Luis is doing very well in his classes. His best grades are 96% in English and 100% in both Civics and Cultural Studies. He started his history class this semester and has been interested to learn about the history of Latin America. They have currently been studying about the Mayan, Incan, and Aztec civilizations. In math, he has been learning about polygons. In Language Arts, they have been studying the Greek roots of words. Luis also continues to do well with baseball. His team finished the season in 2nd place and Luis was chosen to play in the All-Stars game. They started a new season in July and Luis hopes that they will be able to finish in 1st place this season. Although he is doing well in both school and athletics, Luis continues to struggle through the transition to adolescence. He is still trying to decide who he wants to be and what type of friends he wants to have. This is a difficult period of many students and the weight of peer pressure can be great. Please continue to pray for him as he makes decisions in regards to his attitude, friendships, and future.
