Maria is so excited to be sponsored! This is such a blessing for Maria and her family. Maria was able to receive new shoes and a packet of school supplies in order to finish her classes well. Maria finished 4th grade in November 2014. Maria works hard, but is an average student. Her best grades are in Cultural Studies (80) and PE (76). Maria and her family were able to receive food provisions when they were without food. They also had the opportunity to participate in a health teaching on water-born illnesses and receive a water filter for their home to ensure that their family has access to clean drinking water. Maria loved the gifts that you sent for her. She is very grateful! Maria is enjoying her break from school and will begin 5th grade in February 2015.

June 13, 2015

Maria began the fifth grade at the beginning of February. She received her uniform, backpack, school shoes, and the materials for the start of her classes. Maria’s favorite class is math and they are working on long division using decimals. In Science, Maria has been learning about body parts and working on diagrams of lungs, heart, liver, and kidneys. In Language Arts, she is studying and practicing writing paragraphs and stories. Through her sponsorship, Maria and her family received food provisions to help them through a difficult financial time. Maria was able to go to the New Song Clinic and receive medicine when she wasn’t feeling well as well as visit the dentist. Maria loved the gift and card you sent her! She was so excited to get pictures of you and your family.

November 2015

Maria is working hard in her classes. On her second report card of the school year, Maria’s top grades were in culture and Spanish. Her teacher says she is very well behaved and pays attention in class. She is struggling some with the difficult concepts her math class is learning. Maria received needed dental work through her sponsorship as well as medical care including some health tests. Maria received her second uniform and pair of school shoes of the year.

April 2016

Maria began the sixth grade at the beginning of February. This is her last year of elementary school, and this sweet girl will graduate in December and start high school next year. Thanks to her sponsorship, she received her backpack, uniform, shoes, school supplies, and an athletic outfit to be able to participate in her physical education class. Her favorite class is math because she enjoys division. Her math class has been learning about geometry focusing on pentagons. Maria says math is her easiest class. The most interesting thing she has learned in her classes is about the Nicaraguan poet and author, Ruben Dario. They have been studying his poems and life. Maria’s mom works harvesting sugar cane. This work will end in May as the harvest season comes to a close. Through her sponsorship, Maria will have all the tools she needs to succeed academically throughout the year.

Fall 2016

Maria received her second uniform of the year in July. She is halfway through her last year of elementary school! We are so proud of her accomplishments in finishing elementary school when many people in her community cannot say the same. Through her sponsorship, she has received her needed school supplies including her notebooks, pens, crayons, and a geometry set. Her favorite thing she has learned in class this year so far as been dividing multi-digit numbers. From her first report to the second, Maria has raised her grades in math, Spanish, civics, physical education, her vocational class, science, social studies, and her behavior grade! She is doing really well! Sponsorship staff is working to encourage Maria to continue on this path. We know that she can succeed if she continues to put forth the effort. Very recently, Maria’s father passed away suddenly. He had been sick with kidney disease, but took a turn for the worse at the end of August. He passed away in the hospital. Please be praying for Maria and her family during this difficult time.
