Bio

Nataly lives with her parents and two older siblings in a small tin room built onto the back on her grandma’s house. All three children sleep together in a tiny twin size cot. Nataly’s mom is currently pregnant with her fourth child. Nataly’s dad has chronic kidney and is no longer able to work in the sugar cane. He is receiving a small pension, but it is not enough to provide for their family. When his health allows, he looks for work anywhere that his hiring extra hands. He is currently working to dig a well at the New Song property in Santa Matilde. The family is very close-knit and affectionate, but they are struggling to meet their basic needs. Nataly is currently in her last year of preschool and will have her preschool graduation in November 2013. She loves school, especially learning to write her letters. In her free time, she likes to draw. She is shy and has the sweetest smile. Nataly dreams of becoming a cook when she grows up.

Nataly received her school uniform and shoes this month. Having a sponsor is an incredible blessing for Nataly and her family. They were already struggling to meet their financial needs and her mom is now expecting a new baby. Nataly is in her last year of preschool and is doing so well! She is looking forward to her graduation in November.

Through her sponsorship, Nataly received her uniform and shoes for school. Nataly received extra school supplies she needed for her classes thanks to her sponsorship. Nataly was also able to go to the clinic and receive medical care with the help of her sponsorship. Her preschool class participated in a march for all the schools honoring top students in the classes. Her sponsorship helped to cover the costs of this event. She had a lot of fun participating in this event and continues to talk about it!Nataly’s mom recently had a baby girl. Nataly is loving getting to be a big sister as she was the youngest of her siblings. She absolutely loves getting to hold and help take care of her new baby sister. Nataly’s dad recently began a guard shift at New Song church as well as working in the garden of one of the outreach churches. He is such a good dad and cares for Nataly a lot. It is apparent that Nataly feels loved by him and loves him too.

Nataly received medical care in the fall when she had an infection in her throat. Thanks to the medicine and care she received through sponsorship, Nataly is now well. In December, Nataly finished her last year of preschool and celebrated her preschool graduation. Her sponsorship covered the cost of her promotion ceremony and allowed her to celebrate with her family. Nataly and her family moved to Santa Matilde in January. Her dad is working with the gardening program through the church plant in Santa Matilde. Moving has provided her dad with consistent work to help care for the family, but Nataly has had a difficult time adjusting to the new move. She misses her friends and family in Candelaria but is starting to make new friends in Santa Matilde. Nataly started 1st grade this year and is enjoying her classes so far. Thanks to sponsorship, she received her new uniform, shoes, backpack, and school supplies for the new year. She even received extra school supplies for special class projects. She also received a free dental and health evaluation for the new year. Nataly and her family were also able to receive food provisions during the transition to their new home and her dad's new job.

Nataly is enjoying 1st grade. She is an excellent student! She has a 92% average overall. Her best grades are in Spanish and Cultural Studies. She has 100% in both classes. Nataly continues to attend her Thursday afternoon literacy development group that our program coordinates through the church in Santa Matilde to improve her letter recognition and pre-reading skills. Nataly has been learning her letters and letter sounds. She has also begun to learn to identify the greatest number in a set of numbers and to add and subtract single-digit numbers. Nataly has joined the dance ministry team at her church in Santa Matilde. She loves dancing for the Lord. Nataly was so excited to receive your letter and gift. She felt very loved. Nataly and her family were able to receive food provisions during a difficult time for their family. She also received a new uniform and pair of shoes to start the second semester of classes.

Nataly continued to excel in first grade as she completed her first year of elementary school in December. She has grown as a student and as a reader. Her best grades were in Language & Literature. Nataly does as excellent job sounding out words. She is also doing well in math, but has a little trouble decomposing numbers. She has consistently attended weekly tutoring sessions with our sponsorship staff at the church, which has helped her to succeed in first grade. In the summer when Nicaragua was in a drought and the crops in the garden where her dad works failed, Nataly and her family were able to receive food provisions to sustain them until the rains came. Nataly was also able to receive free medical care and medicine through the New Song clinic to treat a bladder infection. In September Nataly’s sponsorship helped her to celebrate her birthday together with her family and church family. She participated in two public health teachings. Nataly attended a dental teaching where she learned how to brush her teeth and received a free toothrbrush. Her family also participated in a health teaching on water-born illnesses and received a free water filter for their family to ensure that they have clean drinking water at home. Nataly has enjoyed her break from school. This has been an exciting time for their family. Nataly’s dad was recently was named youth pastor of their church in Santa Matilde. Nataly began 2nd grade in February 2015. She received her new uniform, shoes, backpack, and school supplies for the new school year.

June 2015

Nataly has been doing really well in second grade. Through her sponsorship Nataly received an athletic outfit to fully participate in her PE class. She was also able to bring in a typical Nicaraguan dish in order to celebrate her country’s foods for her Cultural Studies class. She was also able to celebrate Mother’s day and International Kids’ Day at her school. Nataly’s class has been studying clocks and two-digit addition in math. They have been learning about antonyms and synonyms and practicing writing paragraphs in her Language & Literature class. Nataly continues to attend weekly tutoring sessions to enhance her school performance. She continues to be an excellent student. Nataly has an A- average in her classes. Her best grades are in Math (96%), Cultural Studies (93%) and PE (90%).

December 2015

Nataly continues to excel in second grade. She’s an excellent student: bright and hardworking. Nataly’s teacher says that she’s a great student who comes to school daily and participates well in class. In the most recent grading period Nataly’s conduct grade had dropped to 70% because she’s been talking too much in class. Nataly has all A’s and B’s in her classes. Her best grades are 91% in math and 90% in both Technical Studies and Language & Literature. Nataly was even asked to march in her school’s Indepedence Day parade where she was honored as a top student. Her sponsorship covered the cost of her participation in this event. Through her sponsorship, she was also able to participate in a field trip with her class. Nataly continues to attend weekly tutoring with our sponsorship staff to deepen her skills. Sponsorship has been able to support Nataly greatly in recent months. She received her new uniform and shoes for the second semester of classes. It also allowed her to celebrate her birthday together with her family. Nataly was able to receive free medical care and medicine through the clinic at New Song. Sponsorship was able to help repair Nataly’s home when it began to leak at the beginning of rainy season. Nataly has also started playing on a teeball team through New Song’s new baseball ministry. Nataly’s dad is coaching her team. They have been playing against other villages around Chichigalpa.

Nataly began third grade in February 2016. She received her uniform, shoes, backpack, school supplies and an athletic outfit to participate in her PE class. She continues to enjoy school and to work hard in her classes. Nataly’s favorite class is math because she understands new math concepts quickly. She has been improving her reading comprehension and learning to write paragraphs and dialogues in Language & Literature. Nataly has also been practicing dividing words into separate syllables. Nataly is excelling in third grade! In the first semester, she had A’s in every class. Nataly is so proud of herself and we are proud of her too! She has been learning how to write descriptively in her Language Arts class. Nataly received a new uniform and pair of shoes for the second semester of classes. Her sponsorship provided Nataly’s class with a water bucket so that they had water to drink during the school day. She was also able to cook a traditional Nicaraguan meal to present for her Cultural Studies class. As a focus on preventative health care, Nataly’s sponsorship provided her with a dental cleaning, fluoride treatment and dental hygiene teaching. Nataly also received medical care and medicine through the clinic at New Song. Nataly is thankful for all the gifts that you have sent and the care that you have expressed to her.
