Bio

Ramon lives with his parents and two siblings in a house covered by plastic tarps. Ramon's father works odd jobs. When he can find work, the family has food. When he can't, they often go hungry. Ramon is lacking many of the basic supplies that he needs for school. Ramon is currently in 4th grade. He enjoys studying math and Spanish. When he grows up, Ramon wants to be an agricultural engineer.

Ramon began 5th grade in February. He is excited to have begun a new school year. He says that this year math is his most challenging class and social studies is his favorite. He wants to continue to get good grades in school. With the help of his sponsorship, Ramon received his uniform, backpack, and the school supplies he needs to be successful in his classes. Through the sponsorship program, Ramon received a medical and dental checkup at the New Song clinic.

Ramon is enjoying 5th grade. He is a hard working student. His best grades are in PE and Technical Studies (86) and Spanish (84). Ramon was one of two students selected from his school to attend a special field trip in Managua. Without sponsorship, Ramon wouldn’t have been able to take advantage of this learning opportunity. Thanks to his sponsorship, Ramon was able to make the trip to Managua and participate in this special class. Because of Sponsorship, he was also able to receive medical care and medicine through the New Song clinic when he was sick earlier this year. Ramon received his new uniform, shoes, and backpack for the second semester of classes.

Ramon continues to excel in 5th grade. He was honored as one of his school’s top students during the Independence Day march in September. His sponsorship covered the cost of participating in this event and allowed Ramon to be honored for his hard work. In math, they have been practicing multiplication and division. In Language & Literature, Ramon has been reading scientific texts and learning to use a dictionary. In science, they have been studying nature. Ramon’s sponsorship provided him with extra school supplies for special class projects and bought him a pair of flip flops when he had no shoes to wear outside of school.

Ramon finished the fifth grade at the end of November and began his sixth grade year at the beginning of February. This will be his last year of elementary school and he is greatly looking forward to participating in his graduation ceremony in December. Ramon received his uniform, school shoes, backpack, and supplies to begin the new year. His sponsorship also provided him with a separate uniform for his physical education class as well as a new dictionary. His teacher is looking forward to having Ramon in her class this year as he is very intelligent and works hard. In December, Ramon and his family received a water filter and a teaching on water borne illnesses. This will provide them with clean drinking water for the next several years.

July 2015

Ramon is working hard in his sixth grade year. This will be his final year in elementary school and he is looking forward to graduating to high school. His favorite class is math in which he is learning about large number multiplication and division. In Spanish, Ramon has been working on analyzing and writing text. In June, Ramon celebrated his birthday and thanks to his sponsorship, he was able to have a small celebration with his family. Through his sponsorship, he participated in school events celebrating Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, and International Kid’s Day. His school held an activity to learn about traditional Nicaraguan foods. Ramon received his second uniform and school shoes for the last half of the year.

November 2015

Ramon is so excited to have finished his sixth grade year. He celebrated his graduation from elementary school and can’t wait to start high school. He is looking forward to having different teachers for each class and being in a bigger school. Ramon did well throughout this year with most of his grades being in the 80s. Through his sponsorship, he was able to participate in several class assignments and repair his bed at home. His sponsorship also covered the costs of his graduation ceremony.

Ramon began his first year of high school in February 2016. He received his uniform, shoes, backpack, school supplies and an athletic outfit to participate in his PE class. Ramon has enjoyed learning new subjects and making new friends in high school. His favorite class is math because he feels like he is able to understand it quickly and he likes work on division problems. Ramon completed a project for his vocational class where they learned to make a shirt. Ramon said that this is the most interesting project he has completed so far. His most difficult class is English. This is the first time that Ramon has studied English and it is a difficult new subject for many students in their first year of high school. Ramon is working hard to do well in this class. We are excited to see all the new things that Ramon will learn now that he is in high school.

Ramon was excited to meet your daughter Sara while she was visiting Nicaragua in June. It meant a lot to him to meet part of the family that is sponsorship him! The transition to high school is difficult for many students, but Ramon is handling the transition well. Ramon received his new uniform and shoes for the second semester of classes. Ramon has a C average overall in his first semester of classes. His best grades are 100% in Cultural Studies and 95% in Civics. Ramon is excited to enter into the second semester of classes where they have begun their history class. Ramon has enjoyed learning about the life and work of Agosto Cesar Sandino, a Nicaraguan revolutionary. Thanks to his sponsorship, he was able to participate in a field trip with his school to the capital city of Managua. His sponsorship also allowed him to celebrate his 13th birthday together with his friends and family.
