Bio

Rebecca and her family do not have their own home. Her mom, dad, brother, and Rebecca are currently living in her grandmother's home. Rebecca's family is struggling financially. Both of her parents are currently unemployed. Her father gets seasonal work cutting sugar cane during the harvest season. Rebecca is currently in 2nd grade. She is now able to study thanks to her sponsorship. She dreams of becoming a ballerina and dancing for the Lord.

Thanks to sponsorship, Rebecca received a second uniform and pair of shoes for the second semester of classes. She is an excellent student; one of the top students in her classes. Her best grade is in math, and she has an A- grade average in all of her other classes. Sponsorship also gave Rebecca the chance to receive medical care to treat a stomach infection and avoid being absent from school due to illness.

Rebecca has enjoyed her break from school. She finished second grade in November and is excited to start third grade in February. Her favorite class this year has been math and her top grades are in Spanish and literature. Thanks to sponsorship, Rebecca was able to receive medical care throughout the last several months due to a skin infection. She has an appointment with a specialist in dermatology as she continues to struggle with the infection.

Rebecca began the third grade in February. Through sponsorship, Rebecca was able to receive her backpack, uniform, and the school supplies she needs to be successful in her classes. Rebecca’s sponsorship was able to pay for her visits to the specialist for her skin infection and pay for the medicine she needed. We are so thankful to report that she is doing much better! Her skin infection has cleared up. Rebecca’s favorite class continues to be math. Her class is learning her multiplication tables, addition of large numbers, and beginning division. Her Spanish class recently did a unit on reading and writing poetry and is now working on short stories.

Rebecca received her second uniform and shoes for the last half of the school year. Rebecca’s favorite class is currently Social Studies. In September, Rebecca was able to participate in the Independence Day parade with her school as a member of the band. Her sponsorship was able to cover the costs of this event. Thanks to a special donation, New Song Sunday School has been able to host a feeding program for the kids on Sundays. Rebecca has benefited from this program during a difficult time for the community and her family.

Rebecca finished her third grade year at the end of November. Though she enjoys school, she is excited to be on break with her family and friends. At the end of the school year, Rebecca’s school did a celebration with her class. Rebecca’s sponsorship covered the costs of this event as well as a dance outfit for her. Her teacher chose Rebecca to perform a dance for the celebration, which she was excited about doing! Rebecca also received a new PE uniform to finish up the school year. In December, Rebecca and her family received a water filter and teaching on water borne illnesses. This will provide her family with clean, purified water for several years.

Rebecca started 4th grade in February 2015. She received her uniform, shoes, backpack, and school supplies. Rebecca has been enjoying her classes this year and continues to be an excellent student. She has a B+ average overall in her classes. Her best grades are in PE (100), Cultural Studies (98), and Civics (90). Her favorite class is math where she has been learning multiplication and word problems. Her most difficult classes are Language & Literature and Science. Rebecca has been struggling with a skin infection. She has been able to receive free medical care and medicine through the New Song clinic. Thankfully she is doing much better now and her rash has disappeared.

December 2015

This year Rebecca and her family moved to a neighboring village and she began attending a new school. Rebecca has settled into her new school well and is making new friends. Rebecca continues to do very well in 4th grade. She has an 86% average overall in her first semester. Her best grades are in Cultural Studies and PE (both 100%) and Language & Literature (90%). Her most difficult class is science. Rebecca received her new uniform and shoes for the second semester of classes. Through her sponsorship she was also able to participate in a field trip with her school. Rebecca was chosen to participate in the Independence Day parade with her school and to be honored as one of the top students. Her sponsorship covered the cost of her participation in this event. We are so proud of her success!

April 2016

Rebecca began 5th grade in February. She received her uniform, shoes, backpack, school supplies and athletic outfit to participate in her PE class. This year sponsorship also provided Rebecca with an id card that she can use to do research at a local cyber café. This will allow her to complete investigations and research for her classes. Rebecca continues to attend school faithfully. She has been learning this year about the rotation of the Earth in her science class. In social studies she has been learning about Central America. She continues to succeed in school.

Fall 2016

Rebecca continues to work hard in 5th grade. She is a bright and diligent student. Rebecca has an A average overall in the first semester of classes. Her best grades are 100% in both Cultural Studies and PE, 98% in Vocational Studies, and 97% in Math. Rebecca received a new uniform and pair of shoes for the second semester of classes. Thanks to her sponsorship, she received additional school supplies that she needed for her classes and was able to create an album showing national symbols. Rebecca has also been learning about animal and plant cells. Rebecca is very excited because one of her aunts is pregnant. Rebecca cannot wait to meet her new baby cousin in January.
