Bio

Tito lives with his mom and three siblings. Her mom has been unable to find work. She works odd jobs washing clothes for people in the neighborhood, but struggles to provide for her four children as a single mom. She is often without food for her children and has to seek help from her extended family. Tito is currently in 3rd grade. His favorite class is math. He struggles a lot in language arts and phonics. He will be receiving additional tutoring in 2014 in order to improve his grades in this class. In his free time, he likes to play and ride bikes with his little brother, David. Tito dreams of studying in the university and then getting an engineer job in Ingenio San Antonio (the sugar cane company).

July 2015

Tito is excited to continue his sponsorship with you through Educate Nica. He loved having the time to visit with you in Granada. That trip was a huge blessing to him and David. Thank you for making it possible. Tito is in 4th grade. He struggles in school, especially with his conduct. His teacher comments that he does not have good self-control and often fights with other students. He currently has a failing grade in conduct, but is passing all of his classes. Through his sponsorship, Tito received a second uniform and pair of shoes for the second semester of classes as well as an athletic outfit to fully participate in his PE class. He was able to participate in Mother’s day and Children’s Day celebrations through his school. Tito was able to receive free medical care and medicine through the New Song clinic. He and his family were able to receive food provisions when they were going through a difficult financial time.

November 2015

Tito has worked hard to bring all of his grades up to passing and successfully completed 4th grade. He has good attendance, but continues to struggle with self-control in class. His conduct has led to low grades in his core classes. His best grades are 80% in both PE and Cultural Studies. Through his sponsorship, Tito was able to complete a special class project and research at a local cyber café. Also sponsorship was able to provide Tito and his brother David with a new bed after theirs broke. Tito is looking forward to his vacation from school.

April 2016

Tito began the fifth grade at the beginning of February. Thanks to his sponsorship, he received his backpack, uniform, shoes, school supplies, and an athletic outfit to be able to participate in his physical education class. Math is Tito’s favorite class because he enjoys adding and subtracting. He says that he is learning to behave better and pay attention in class. He is so proud that he is in the fifth grade this year. Tito comments that the most interesting thing he has learned about is how to take care of the ozone. His mom is not working so they rely on help from extended family members to survive. Tito misses you and is thankful for the time he got with you last year. Thank you for believing in Tito.

Fall 2016

Tito received his second uniform of the year in July. He is halfway through his fifth grade year and really likes his teacher. His teacher has commented that Tito’s change from childhood to adolescence goes hand in hand with his behavior. He is doing much better in his behavior this year but still struggles to pay attention in class. On his second report card of the school year, Tito received a failing grade in math. Sponsorship staff is encouraging him to attend weekly tutoring sessions to work on these skills. In May, Tito was climbing a tree and fell onto a barbed wire fence. He landed on his face and the barbed wire ripped hole completely through his cheek. He was taken by ambulance to the hospital where he was placed under anesthetics to put stitches inside his cheek and outside. Tito was in a lot of pain for a few days, but the hardest part for him was that he was bored and couldn’t talk. Tito’s sponsorship covered the cost of his family’s transportation to the hospital and several clinic visits to clean and care for his wound. Tito received all his needed school supplies for his classes and he comments that he hopes to see you soon. Thank you for your love for him and his family!
