Bio

Yaoscar lives with her mom and nine siblings. Yaoscar’s mom struggles to provide as a single mother of ten children. Her mom has been unable to find work which leaves the family without income. Yaoscar’s mom and older siblings go to the nearby rice fields each day to collect the grains of rice that were dropped or left over after the harvest. This is the only food that the family has. They are in dire financial need. Yaoscar will be in 4th grade in February 2014. She works hard in school and has such a sweet spirit. Her favorite class is mathematics. In her free time, she likes to help her mom around the house. She dreams of becoming a doctor.

May 29, 2015

Yaoscar started 5th grade in February 2015. She received her uniform, shoes, backpack and school supplies. Her teacher says that she works hard in class and attends school faithfully. She is doing amazingly well in her classes this year. Yaoscar has an A average overall and has 100% in three classes: Cultural Studeis, Civics, and PE. Yaoscar’s favorite class is math where they are currently learning about fractions. In her Language & Literature class, they have been reading and examining the poems of Ruben Dario. Through her sponsorship, Yaoscar was able to cook a traditional Nicaraguan meal to bring in for her Cultural Studies class. Yaoscar is excited about this year of school and continues to grow academically.

December 2015

Yaoscar continues to excel in 5th grade. She has all A’s and B’s in her classes. She still has 100% in three classes: PE, Civics, and Cultural Studies. In math they are learning to convert fractions to decimals. In science, Yaoscar has been studying the characteristics of different ecosystems. In social studies, they have been learning about Nicaraguan Independence for Nicaraguan and Central American Independence days in September. Yaoscar was honored among the top students in her class and chosen to march in the Independence Day march. Her sponsorship covered the cost of this activity. She received her new uniform and shoes for the second semester of classes. Yaoscar was also able to bring soy food for a project for her science class. Yaoscar is becoming such an incredibly young lady who is hard working, intelligent, and full of life. We are so proud of Yaoscar and her success this year!

Fall 2016

Yaoscar received her second uniform and pair of school shoes of the year in July. She is halfway through her last year of elementary school and is maintaining passing grades in her classes. Yaoscar is an intelligent girl and could get better grades than the ones on her report card. We are working to encourage Yaoscar to do the best that she can in her classes. Yaoscar is struggling some with peer pressure and trying to be the “cool” person. She and some friends brought some rum to school and mixed it with soda to try. The teacher caught them and told the pastor. The pastor and sponsorship staff have met with and counseled all the girls about this issue. Please be praying for her as she navigates this difficult season of her life. Through her sponsorship, Yaoscar received her needed school supplies including notebooks, pens, pencils, crayons, and a geometry set. She was also able to get her annual dental cleaning from the New Song Dental Clinic.
