Bio

Yubelkis lives with her parents and two siblings. Yubelkis' mom does not work so that she is able to be at home with the children. Her dad works seasonally in the sugar cane fields. During the six months that he is working, they are able to meet their basic needs. When he is not working, they often go without. Their home is in need of repair because the tin roof has holes from rust; it now allows rain to enter in the house. Yubelkis is a quiet and sweet-natured girl. She just started her first year of preschool. Yubelkis loves to go to school! She loves to learn and to play with her friends. Sponsorship will help Yubelkis dream for a better future.

May 29, 2015

Yubelkis began the new school year at the beginning of February. She is so excited to be in school and part of the sponsorship program. There has been one major change in Yubelkis home and that is the addition of her new baby sister. Her family welcomed Mari Alexandra to the family in January. This is Yubelkis’ first younger sibling and she loves it! Due to Yubelkis’ young age, she wasn’t allowed to hold her sister at first but stayed by her side offering to help whenever she could. Yubelkis is full of life and energy. She is currently in preschool and is learning her vowels and how to count. To begin the new school year, Yubelkis received her uniform, backpack, school shoes, and the supplies she needed for the start of the year. Thanks to her sponsorship, Yubelkis received a special textbook for her school and funds for a project. Her sponsorship was also able to cover the costs of her participation in her school’s Mother’s Day and International Kid’s Day celebrations.

December 2015

Yubelkis loves school especially getting to play with her friends. She is looking forward to her graduation to elementary school in December. Her class is working on creating a foundation for the students as they get ready to move into first grade. Yubelkis loves to play with her little sister and her mom constantly reminds her to be careful. Through her sponsorship, Yubelkis received her second uniform and pair of school shoes of the year as well as funds for a small birthday celebration. Yubelkis recently saw a doctor who prescribed special milk and vitamins to help increase her low weight. She participated in the Independence Day Parade with her school as a top student in her class.

April 2016

Yubelkis began the first grade at the beginning of February. Thanks to her sponsorship, she received her backpack, uniform, shoes, school supplies, and an athletic outfit to be able to participate in her physical education class. Her favorite class is language arts as she starts the beginning stages of learning to read and write. Her class has been doing a review of everything they learned in preschool to evaluate the levels of all the students. Yubelkis is an intelligent and creative student. She says math is more difficult for her than language arts. She enjoys being in a new class with new friends and a new teacher. The transition from preschool to first grade can be difficult for many students. Yubelkis’ dad works for the sugar cane company.

Fall 2016

Yubelkis received her new uniform and shoes for the second semester of classes. She continues to excel in first grade and has advanced marks in all academic areas. She is extremely bright and picks up new concepts quickly. Yubelkis is proud of herself because she has learned to read more quickly. In her Langauge Arts class, they created envelopes of vocabulary words to practice reading. In math she has begun to solve simple addition and subtraction problems. Yubelkis is hilarious, sassy and has such a big personality! She is also making her family and neighbors laugh. Yubelkis is very excited because she was chosen once again to participate in her school’s Independence Day march where she will perform as a majorette.
